Thread: Stop complaining about the jedi population. They are here to stay !

I read more and more posts about the jedi population, and about people complaining about how easy and fast it is to be one. They talk about making it more difficult and longer.

And what? nerf it more for the newcomers? Did you see the big trailer on SOE website? It says come to our game you can be a jedi, and that's exactly what they expect to find. Not in 6 months, not in one year , right now. That's how you feel when you see that.

This is too late to worry about the jedi population now. They are here, many are grinding now to be one and are coming too. SWG is dead, we are in Kotor online. So that's useless to find a solution for it when you see a jedi at every corner. The last XP nerf from SOE was stupid. I should point out that developers of this game are the big cheaters of the universe. At first you had to master 5 professions to be a jedi. Seeing jedis appear in the world, they increased it to 8, to 11 and so on ... Now they do it with xps. Rather than slowing down (again) the jedi, they should handle them in game give more content for them that's all. Jedis are here and intend on staying. Rather than implementing content, they change the rules everytime.

Honestly, I am more concerned about jedi visibility than jedi number. I am fed up seeing jedis openly drawing lightsabers everywhere, dueling at outposts and major cities. If something has to be done, I feel that's in that direction. Strong measures should be enforced to prevent this from happening and have us feel about jedi as they should be in the timeline the devs chose for this game.

Many playerswon't play it reasonably being too proud to show their saber to everyone, dueling and calling others noobs. Well this is very simple. When a jedi uses force power or draw a saber in any public area have the game spawn vader or a bunch of CL 200 siths to slay them at once with twice the penalty as BH death or worse. And then, trust me, jedis will really be in hiding. The question is, will devs have the guts to implement such a thing. This remain to be seen.

They don't have the guts to make playing Jedi any harder. That's a shame, because it NEEDS to happen.

Your solution is hilarious though, lol. A Jedi death squad. I think it would make sense, Vader coming out to smite all who oppose him.

/agree

This would help a lot. The problem isn't too many jedi, it's too visible jedi. If the jedi were playing as they were meant to (hidden from sight) than you wouldn't see so many jedi everywhere and it would still feel as though there weren't many. If the jedi would stop dueling in star ports and actually hide a little everyone who plays a jedi could have that feel of being unique and everyone who doesn't like jedi will have that feel of playing in a universe with few jedi.

Again, the Number is not the problem. The Visibility is the problem. We need more strict consequences. I fully support this "jedi death squad". Not only should an xp loss be implemented (since I've heard it said that most starport-duelers are full temp anyway) but SKILL LOSS should also be a consequence of death to the Jedi Death Squad.

Vader is supposed to be cleansing the universe...it's high time he came out of retirement and brought a little fear back into this game.

This is why traditional RPG's have things called game masters who don't take crap from the players. Stupid actions actually brought you punishing consequences. Ifa Jedi player in the SW RPG ever pulled 1/100th of the crap that I see in this game, I'd expect nothing less than to seethan this....

Game Master:"ok, youignite your lightsaber in the cantina to show it off to the guy at the counter.(rolls the dice for show but already has decided what's going to happen) But in doing so, you've justcaught theattention of everyone in the building, and half of them are armed. Like a well-designed machine, they all quickly draw their guns and open fire on you. Your foolishness costs you dearly as you fight valiantly to defend yourself but are overwhelmed by the panicking patrons and you fail to block a blaster bolt the strikes you in the temple, laying you out on the floor, dead instantaneously. Now... go make a new character.

SOE doesn't think like game masters though. In RPG, game masters control the show. In SWG, the whiney players are controlling the show. And SOE is afraid to do anything that upsets the Jedi (note how this nerf only hurt those going for Jedi)

I thought the whole "Jedi death squad" was in the game since the begining. I thought that Jedi would have to unequip their saber so NPC's couldn't see it. I thought that was the point of Jedi...secretive. That is what I was looking for in Jedi; the fact that I would have to watch my every move while I was in a city...depending on the city.

I do agree that if you use your force powers in certain parts of the city, a death squad should come after you. I think that would add a lot more excitement to the game.

Edit: I also like the idea that if you are in a highly populated area, with tough NPC's, they should start shooting at you. I like it. Perma-death, no, but a penalty for being so ignorant, yes. EQ had the right idea, if you die, you loose XP. That is what they should do to those nade spammers...even though they did nerf the grenade. I am happy, altough combat should still be 3:1. People would not work for their combat XP, instead, they would nade-spam every lair, and let other people work for them...

Not to mention that RPers understand that Jedi are in hiding. They're not concerned with pwning n00bs everywhere...

I know they said a while back they'd have actors running around as the various famous SW people...I've even heard of times when it happened although I never saw it myself. This is a very cool idea and it'd be fun to see...but, I only really care strongly about seeing one out there...Vader. I'd like very much to see Vader act out an a$s whooping on star-port jedi duelists.

Please SOE...give us one GM as posted above...and make that GM answer to the name Vader. Hell, i'm sure more than a few employees there wouldn't mind taking a shot at it on their lunch break. Failing that, I'm sure you could find a few volunteers here.

Thanks for all these nice constructive posts. It shows many of us are driven by the same needs. I particularly enjoyed the one about pen and paper gamemasters I felt like I was a patron in this cantina.

The 'Jedi death squad' sounds very nice to my ear, as for players/GMs impersonating dark enforcers.

If devs are watching, I think this thread is worth noting.

I think most Jedi early on went into it expecting that they'd have to sneak around a LOT, but then discovered that it didn't matter. BH was bugged way too long and it's STILL not working. Too late now.
