Do I actually USE this crystal before I goout and wait for the Sith to attack? Or just leave it in my inventory?

You never use the crystal. It use to be used to show the status of your Force quests, but since the CU, they have added a quest log because of the other quests introduced in the game. Once he gives you the crystal, the sith comes anywhere from 1-72 hours I believe. If you die, you lose the crystal and then you have to wait on another visit from the old man. If you win, you'll loot a Waypoint to a Sith base on the planet you were attacked on. Then there you kill the sith and loot another Waypoint datapad, which leads you to the Village.

When I getmy lightsaber can I put the crystal the old man give me in it?
