when i click use it says you must first loot the item before you can extract any information from it

don't loot until you kill them both...

It happened to me too but do not worry the Sith will come again and again until you get the datapad you can use. It took me three time to get the good one, so cheer up !

Put it in a backpack or a bank or some other container. The same thing happend to me.
