If I completed the quest, got the quest completed journal entry and the branch unlocked journal enrty, but didn't make it back to the village to talk with the guy who gave me the quest...

1) is the branch really unlocked?

2) can I still get the quest reward the next time he spawns (probably phase 1)

3) will I have to do the quest again?

I'm sure there's someone out there who has run into this before.

I think that depends on which quest you did, but if your quest journal says you've completed it and got the unlock, I doubt you'd need to do it again.
