Thread: I can't do quest this phase. Devs please help!

Something has to be done for the Melee Defense quest this phase. For those of us on dial up this mission is all but impossible to do. I have tried on 3 seperate occasions to complete it and have only managed to kill a total of 10 sith. As long as there aren't too many players in the village I am fine, but once the sith spawn, the 20-30 players who are always around, start attacking the sith and I get bogged down with major lag. It is soo bad that I cannot even get an attack in. It literally takes me 5 minutes for one attac to go through, which always does nothing since the sith I attacked 5 minutes before is already dead. And I am not exagerating. I timed one attack at 5 full minutes, with many others taking longer.
Please do something Devs!!! I know this post probably won't get anything done since the majority of players seem to be on broadband or something, but I had to try...

I'm on dial up and have just this minute got it finished. Taken me about 7 waves, which I don't think is too bad just using my Master Fencer skills. I went to the village on the first day of this phase and the lag just about blew up my computer, it was awful and the 5 minutes you mention I know is not an exaggeration. What I decided to do was log in when its not busy, like 2am and the middle of the day when people are at work/school. Its not ideal, but I hope this will help you a bit. If you go on at these times run around like a madman hitting as many Outlaws/Pirates as possible and try to keep away from the thugs. If a Thug aggro's you run into one of the tents near to Paemos, they shouldn't follow you in there. Good luck.

Thanks for the tip. I had thought of the time thing too. I might just have to go to bed early when I have the next day off so that I can do it at 2am. It is just sad that I should even have to do that though. I pay the same as everyone else and should be able to play the game whenever I choose.

I had the same problem as well, except the lag was so bad that there was sometimes a 5 min delay before my attacks would launch, after the 3rd attempt i had killed 10 sith, I am a TK so it was getting pretty difficult to do, then i was annoyed so i switched to a carbine which i am not certified to use, and ran around the edge of the battle as close to the fog wall as possible. Doing that allowed me to finish the quest in the next 2 spawns, whenever teh lag got too bad i just ran outside the fog wall until the lag was gone, then went in and shot at every target i could find. once i got a hit i switched targets and let others kill them. Hope this helps you to finish it

Give it a few days to aweek...the population of those players doing the mission should drop off exponentially since it was flooded (on all servers) for the first couple of days. You'll still have plenty of time to get your quota. I was having connection problems cuz of the lag too - and my cable modem runs at 9.6Mbps. I can only sincerely sympathize with you and your modem. /pat on back
Keep in mind that thiswill be a blessing and a curse at the same time - the less players around there are, the better for your connection. But at the same time the less players around,the less your protection...trust me cuz - those Thugs do *not* mess around.

Yeah when I first showed up yesterday morning at around 9am I found only a couple players in the village and managed to take on several outlaws, but then the cavalry arrived and my lag showed itself in its full glory.I will juet have to wait and see. You are probably right about the number of players dropping soon, which would be nice. I am not so worried about backup, since I could probably get my guildmates to help out if there isn't anyone else. Thanks for the tips guys.

I am on dsl and the lag was so bad last night, i couldnt even trade a rifle with a guy between spawns. But as the other guy said, if you are suffering from lag, don't try and go hand to hand. Get whatever ranged weapon you are certified in and use it. Pick up novice marksman and use a cdef if you need to. Remember you don't have to kill, just tag them.

Absolutely. I did this in one attack last night. I took a fast pistol, used TAB to target enemies, and hit Attack until I saw the green "You hit..." message. Then TAB to the next, and so on. Be sure to make a special effort to watch for Pirates and get your hit in on them. There's enough Outlaws to go around, but the last two Pirates that spawned were the last 2 I needed, and I'm pretty sure I hit every Pirate at least once in that area (we were at the northern gate).

I have dial up also, but I must say, it's not quite impossible. In a matter of 2 waves, I was down to 19 of both left to kill. I didn't even have my armor on either

Hmm i didnt find that much lag on Farstar. (i too use dialup)
but gents u ARE making hard work of it as melee.
take a tip that works:
Buy a fast scout blaster 1.8 or better. Then sit with the ranged guys and single shot as many different sith as u can using the the TAB key.
u surely know by now u dont have to kill them to get a credit u just have to inflict damage (1 hit)
evenif u arent certified for it that scout blaster will inflict a hit and damage (albeit less than if u were certified) and it fires FAST which is what u need. the speed doesnt get affected by certification i found.
