Thread: Question for those using Commando to grind

To put it simply, what and where do you hunt?

It seems they recently changed something about the Dantooine spawns. Last week I was using C-12s to cut through bols like butter, this week not they, nor glops are doing anything.

So I used lesser bols to get to 3000 commando... now what should I hunt?

I tried using Imp detonators on Pikets, and got my arse handed to me (yes, I was armored and buffed).

Seems they CAN take out bols, but only one at a time, and really slowly.

So what should I be hunting with these things that will give me a decent xp return and yet not send me to the cloning facility?

Thanks

Huurtons always put a hurtin' on me (sorry, I couldn't resist).

Wonder what I'm doing wrong.

As for the giant bazs, I'll give them a try, but I have a bad feeling about this.

If your having problems with pikets and other creatures on dantooine....baz nitches will give you problems as well...they do more damage than pikets and have more HAM....sounds to me you have another kind of problem....Probably thearmor andgrenade damage type your using.

The thing you have to remember is that the nades will damage you too....so make sure the armor you wear has a high resist to the type of grenade you use...if you use glops, make sure your acid resist is high, if you use imp detonators, make sure your heat resist is high (or is imp det. blast...I get them mixed up sometimes)......Ubese armor is no good for grinding with nades, the resist is just too low...you'll damage yourself faster than the mobs can.

I know this for a fact....I use to kill myself all the time with nades, then I went and pulled out my best armor 80 kinetic / 80 electricity / 80 energyand 70% base (got 3 suits like that and numerous others with 69% base and 70% to electricity and kinetic).

It also helps to have some medic skills or TKA....the defense toughness from TKA will improve your defense and you take less damage. Also, use a COB macro...that should help.

personally, I grind on pikets longhorns....and I believe feirce piket protectors or the piket females are completely vulnerable to blast damage.....I kill them with 3 nades usually (thermals or imp detonators...takes minimum 3 - 4 stacks of c22's.....and a heck of lot of stacks of c12's)

My HAM never gets below half when using the above......now if your a pure commando....your out of luck unless you get fencer or pistoleer to go with it...commando has virtually no defense against anything.....other than smuggler, commando has the lowest defense of all the combat professions....

Just remember, the armor you wear and the type of nade you use are the most important besides buffs....

im 4000 in commando. i use thermal gernades on giant baz nitch lairs on dath. i get two missions near the village. once i finish both lairs. i capp my combat xp. i get 150k xp per lair. times two i get capped. this leaves me 4k away from the village. so im all good. two sets of missions gets me 200k fs xp.

yeah so it might sound better to do giant baz nitches... culnerable to heat, and 15% to blast, i think.

I hope you meant to say you get 150k combat xp for 2 missions and not per lair....I assume you meant that because your last sentence says you get 200k for 2 sets of missions.....which I take as 4 total missions.

otherwise, you have to kill about 27 - 30 baz nitches per lair to get 150k combat xp on one lair.....i'm sorry, even in a 20 player group missions don't spawn that many per lair.

for everyone using nades.....whats best to hunt for some is not the best for you. It all depends on what kind of grenade your using, what your template is, what kind of armor you have or can get and how much your willing or able to spend grinding.....grinding all combat xp only using nades is very very expensive....instead save all those stacks of grenades you would have used to grind 90k combat xp that you would normally get just by capping your elite profession....

See it takes me about 12 - 14stacks (maybe a little less) of c12's to take out one lair on dantooine......probably get 50 - 60k combat xp and would take nearly70 or more stacks of nades to cap (almost 3 full crates maybe more if your missing a lot).......but if I cap TKM xp then I get 90K combat xp from that and then use all those c12's to get the 210k combat xp I need instead of 300k.....that would save me a crate or so of nades......for extremely cheap crates I spend 25k for c12's......that's 25k I've saved myself approxiamately and probably will use that for house maintenance or something....maybe even a new swoop when those nasty nightsister invade my swoop with the force when I'm riding buy and disable it.

Now if your using c12's that might not be much of any savings since you can easily get 25k in 2 or 3 ungrouped solo missions (11k baz nitch missions will get you 22k) but when your up there in commando using the very rare thermals, imp detonators and protons....your crates are likely costing 50k or more per crate (one guy on my server was selling c22's for 150k per crate....yeah, highway robbery..LOL). In the end, wasting stacks of nades getting the extra 90k combat xp that your elite profession could get in less than 1 hour maybe even 45 minutes for a swordsman.....it's just not efficient....

So cap your elite profession first, then finish off the combat xp with nades. You not only save nades, but capping weapons xp is very fast compared to capping allcombat xp with nades (when your speed capped that is)......simply because you can get weapons xp really fast and combat xp using nades is slower. For instance I can do 10 missions using TKM in the time it takes me to do 3 missions using only grenades.....as a TKM I can kill a whole lair of pikets in less than 40 seconds.....as a swordsman, I could do it in about 25 - 30 seconds.......using c12's it take a good 5 -7 minutes because of the speed (usually about 5 seconds or more for a non-commando, that's only 12 nade throws per minute plus all of them don't always damage all creatures).....and if I use imp detonators it takes about 3 minutes or so......You know how many missions I can do as a TKM in 3 minutes.....Note: I'm only talking about the actual combat time spent because travel time will be just about equal....so it don't matter how long travel takes....it's a matter of what you do once you get to the lair...use TKM or grenades which will determine the time it takes to kill the whole lair.

Now combat xp is still faster simply because the conversion rate is so much lower. So now I go to trade in 130k combat xp instead of just 90k or just 100k.....if I would have kept swordsman, I surely could get 160k twice in 1 buff session for a total of 320 fs xp per buff session.....which if I had to start from scratch in fs xp, it would only take 27 buff sessions to do.

So you see, it's not all about what you hunt....it's where, when, how, what, with what weapons, tactics and strategies you use....it's your defense, your knowledge of the game, your experience...blah blah blah.....for a vet, it's simple but for a vet or semi-vet trying to tell someone to just do huurtons, baz nitches or pikets.....it doesn't help much when you don't know exactly why you should do them over other mobs......also, a lot of people exaggerate on the actual time and xp they get and spend when doing certain stuff in game.....not saying anyone is not being truthful, but just that if you don't keep records or notes on exactly what you are doing in game...the mind tends to be inaccurate when recalling from memory.
