Can I then drop being a Jedi and keep the 2nd slot?

This is for another account that I have, my primary account has a Jedi in the Knight Trials and the unlocking character (unlocked when it wasstill a profession grind)is FS with 1-0-0-3combat prowess. I want to unlock the 2nd slot for my crafter so he can have a merchant, but still be Master WS and Master Doc, and retain Force Experimentation, Force Assembly, and Force Healing.

You're meant to be able to but I think it's currently bugged, so at worst you'll have to settle for having padawan status for a while. Just note though that if you delete one of your 2 characters and neither is a Jedi, you will not be able to recreate the 2nd character. So once you make it, don't plan on deleting it.

The way it has been working is once you achieve Jedi Padawan (which is the same point at which you get your second character), you can no longer drop it. And since you require 6 full FS branches to qualify for padawan you must keep those too (At a cost of 24 sp). So you don't have to play a jedi, but you sacrifice 24 skill points for the second slot.

Why not just join test center and have 3 characters from the get-go?

This is why I beleive they don't allow you to drop being a Padawan.

I for one think that you should be able to but you lose your secon character slot.
