They said that while you can't get on the BH term until padawan,you can generate visibility.Meaning that if you generated enough vis, you would instantly go on BH term once you finish your trials. Showing off your saber at initiate works like this.
"Hey guys, watch me kill this gubber."
10 mins later, possibly building visbility.
"There, I bet you can't do it that slow."
So there really isn't much to show off. If you want to roleplay and have no intention of igniting the saber, then wear the robe and equip a spraystick, the rifle that looks like a lightsaber.
I cannot confirm or deny whether you will gain vis. Everything I read, tested and heard points to what I said, that until you have the purple bar you do not gain vis. As far as first hand experience, I have only landed on the terminals once and that was well after i got novice lightsaber. I still don't walk around in my robe in cities and have never gone near any NPC's, driods or anything with a LS equipped. I also did not get killed by a BH, I stopped playing for a few weeks and have never been hunted.
So the answer is more like this, if you can imagine that it takes 2-3 hours just to get novice LS, and a BH comes and kills you, costing you at least 15,000 xp loss, and if you clone another 15k, you'll be spending the first 6+ hours just digging out of the hole.
Best comparrison to what swinging a lightsaber is like prior to novice is to go grab brawler 0200 and go hunting with a looted gaffi stick that has max damage of 98 and speed of 5 and only count the combat xp you get on all those durnis you kill.
