/sigh, some people, i swear.

You unlock a second character when you get padawan so you can still play on your server with your friends without having to worry about being hunted. It was NOT put in just for people to have two characters. You apparently didn't understand this simple concept before you started.

Again, it's to have a normal character to play so you can still play without being jedi/hunted if you want. NOT just to have two normal characters.

Regardless of what was intended by having a second character, the truth of it is that many, many people are interested in unlocking Jedi, only for the second character. It seems to me that Sony should just give it up and put in a set of quests to unlock a 2nd character. I am yet another person who is going to grind through the village just to get the 2nd character slot opened up. Sounds like my now main character is going to end up being my artisan/crafter character due to the fact that doing normal adventuring with him won't be an option due to experience debt. I'll just pick up the FS skills that will help me out most with crafting and call it good.

It will only take a couple of weeks to build my 2nd character back up to the template that I currently have with my main. No problems :-)

But the explicit purpose of the 2nd character is to let Jedi explore without fear of being hunted.

If you really, really want a 2nd character, spend the $20 at Best Buy for another copy of the game, and spend another $15 per month. That is the only quest that is demanded of you - a trip to Best Buy. Honestly, is saving an extra $15/month worth all the hassle of going through the Village? Get the FS skills you want to enhance your character, and then enjoy your 2nd character.

And to anyone unlocking *just* for a 2nd character, I strongly advise you to train up in at least double-bladed lightsabers 3, before any chance of starting to lose xp. No only for the experience of knowing how to stay hidden as a Jedi, but also so you have a hope of using your Jedi skills when you decide to.

As a Jedi Initiate, your rate of xp gain is very very slow with your training saber. Your first double-bladed saber isn't a ton better. Once you get to double-bladed 3 though, you can at least have a hope of grinding back from serious negative amounts of xp if you choose to actually play your Jedi. It's a skillpoint dedication, but in the long run it will be worth your sanity (should you decide you want to fight with your Jedi).

It is what it is. Regardless of WHY they explicitly said you get a second character, the fact is, you get one. They've put such a nice reward (even if they didn't mean it as areward, it still is one)for becoming a Jedi, that has nothing to do with being a Jedi, that many people are picking it up for that reason instead of truly wanting to become a Jedi.

It just seems to me that they should separate becoming a Jedi from unlocking the second character to keep people from doing just what I am. Jedi should indeed be very rare, and the only reward for becoming one, should be being a Jedi. That's another part of the reason I don't want to actually be a Jedi, because there are already waaaaayyy too many of them. I suppose though, my becoming a Jedi, then hiding it would keep in the theme of the game since Vader & Palpatine are hunting them all down (something I'd love to see actually implemented in the game).

I don't really believe that there's so many Jedi.

At least, I don't see them.

Sure, you see some Jedi - but compare that to everyone else you see in gaming session. Pretty rare. That is, unless they're Knights, in which case they HAVE to have their saber equipped and robes on, as the lightsaber is the only weapon they have any effectiveness with (without it equipped, imagine PvP'ing on your first day just after character creation).

I don't really care about running around and seeing Jedi anymore. The FS system's been in place long enough that you're going to see Jedi. Most of them are extremely weak, anyways - nowhere near as powerful as Knights.

My thing with the second character is that I would like that be the one to get jedi instead of my main but unless they change it down the road, I just going to have to deal with the lost of those points and just work my sec slot to full jedi.

I have enough combat on my main to have fun, What I was hoping would happen is if you get the second character to jedi you lock in palce that one or both has it and you can pick which one main or sec would be able to drop skills. but hey one can dream right.

I can understand most people think it's stupid. Why be a normal character class when you can be a kick butt Jedi?

First, I'll never be a kick-butt Jedi; I do NOT have the resources.

I have about three color crystals and one clear crystal from random mobs. Just enough to make my training saber. That's not a problem for me. I'm actually quite happy with my tiny, yet hard-earned collection. I never planned on going for Jedi, so I didn't spend lots of time collecting them. Now I am facing the fact that I can't avoid being a Jedi once I get my second character, but don't have a stash of crystals or millions of credits to buy them. I have three choices here. I can make my second character a combat profession to get the crystals. I wanted a second character to try out the crafting side of SWG without giving up the combat I loved so much. (crumples up paper with "things I want" written across the top and tosses it out the window.. it explodes outside) So much for that idea. My second choice is that I could just give up on my second character now, after spending months working on it, and go hunt up a few dozen crystals. More grinding. (Bangs head on table) Finally, I could just say heck with it and just make my Jedi with a junk lightsaber. Either way, it doens't look like any kind of fun. Jedi just isn't for me right now.

Second, I'm done with grinding exp for now.

There are lots of things to do in SWG. I don't want to grind anymore. I've spent months grinding exp to unlock my second character, and I enjoyed that. I was working toward something I really wanted. I don't want to do it now. I want to earn as many non-profession badges as I can. I want to start a business with my second character to sell spice and reverse-engineered space loot. I don't want to go back to being a pathetic combatant for months on end with just what's basically a high-powered flashlight as consolation. The Jedi grind really stinks at the beginning. (And toward the end, and probably the middle too, though I'm not sure about that.) Maybe someday I'll be ready to try it, but I'd like to explore the character classes I have now. (I'm one of the many sad master smugglers waiting for a revamp so I have a place in the galaxy somewhere.... I know, I know. I could grind three Jedi before the revamp finally comes, but I'll hold out.)

Third, I understand that it's a reward for making Jedi so you can explore the world without losing experience, but why am I being punished for giving up Jedi?

I'm not gaining anything by giving up Jedi. How is having two normal characters so unfair as opposed to someone who has a Jedi and a normal character? Or someone who has two Jedi? Is wanting to go help my friends fight through a themepark one day, and crafting stuff for them the next day a crime? I understand how the devs see it, as a reward for having a Jedi, but if I put all the effort into getting there, what's the difference if I keep it or give it up? It just doesn't justify denying us two normal characters.

Why am I telling you all this?

(Because I just found out I ENJOY RANTING TO NO ONE ON THE INTERNET!!! MWAH HA HA HA!)

Oops, no. Sorry..

This is just how I want to play the game. I don't see anything wrong with how I want to play it. That's what seems like the most fun for me, and that's what the game is all about, but I can't do that, and I the logic behind it just doesn't make sense. Maybe you don't agree. That's fine. I hope you can get your Jedi or your badge, or whatever else you are working on. Good luck getting it. That doesn't mean what you want is what everyone else wants.

I'm still hoping that everyone's wrong. I'm still gonna try. I'm gonna get my Padawan, make my second character, and then give up my Padawan box. We'll see how it turns out. (crosses fingers)

I dont think that not being able to drop padawan is intended, i think its a bug. But even if they ever fix it, and you are able to drop padawan, they might make it so that your alt is deleted when you do.
