Even if itcan't positively be proven to work, you might as well pick it up anyway considering none of the other FS skills are particularly useful either.

So, should I wait and get Melee Accuracy instead? Or does that not work either (according to the ones that say it doesn't work) ?

oh the accuracy definitely works, get the speed if i was you, i mean what else is worth getting?

if its a choice of one or the other id go with acc, since your speed caped at master sabers anyway.
back when they first came out it was believed they didnt work with sabers, now that folks have tested them it seemes that they indeed do, wish id known that when i picked my branches

I'm not sure who would be wiling to take the riskof grinding sabers without the fs melee speed although if you'redoing itwithout this modifier please run tests on your sabers without crystals and post a detailed summary for the rest of us.
I'm very curious to see the results...

Melee Speed (enhanced melee speed +12): Increases speed with any melee weapon. Useless for Lightsaber Masters (rumored not to be working for Lightsabers anyway).
Indeed it's useless for Lightsaber masters. But it does work for non-masters, including every Jedi during their grind.
The benefit to someone with LS xx44 is about 8%, according to my calculations on test data supplied by others. Visit the thread "Saber Specials Speed" etc linked in my sig for the test info.

I have both melee and ranged speed. As a rifleman, I noticed it, as a jedi, my friend noticed it (before me). We are both tier IV in polearm and tried it with unenhnced sabers. I am faster

Worked late last night and wasn't able to put any attention into breaking this down. I should be able to work it out and post an up to date status on my abilities with fs melee speed.
We are REALLY going to need someone to test this who does NOT have the fs melee speed. Being that we all grabbed this from the fs skills with the intent to benefit jedi I'm curious if there's anyone out there without it. Anyone willing to drop the entire tree of melee speed after they've done a speed comparison on their stock sabers? 
One thing is for sure. We need to test these issues from time to time as new patches have a likely possibility to change pre-existing stats or mods without recieving any attention or notice from the DEVs. We've seen it before so we can be safe to say there will be other 'un-announced' nerfs in the future. [please do not flame the DEVs for these unannouced nerfs - no benny to us]

Helllo!! It has already been tested and the effect of about 8% calculated precisely by comparing logs of people WITH and WITHOUT FS Melee Speed IV. Why do you want to reinvent the wheel?
Go study my post below, somewhere in the thread there are posts about melee speed.

Good job on the quantative analysis!
Can you compose a statistical breakdown while showing a comparison incolumns? It would greatto see this info compiled and listedside-by-side to reflect the differences in'non fs melee speed' and 'fs melee speed'. It looks VERY good at a glance although I think I'm missing something.
