the solution be simple, no?....don't grind. play the game and the xp will come. I haven't done any xp grinding at all, just played as i usually do. sometimes I am capped for days and days before I make time to visit village. And lo, another week and I be done.
I see it as a choice, grind if you wish or have fun and let come what may.
This is an answer I've heard a lot since the unveiling of this new system
Thing is, I've hardly grinded since the village openedand I got glowysometime inSeptember, 2004. It was phase 1,because theAssembly FS Crafting box was the one I unlocked. Then I spent days grinding ABECs with my Doctor Crafting skill andI ground out 1 box of Assembly in Crafting, thendays more grindinga second box when Experiment opened up in Phase 3.
Then I 'just played'. I'm about 9/10ths done with one Melee Speed box from combat I've done over the past 6 months. Crafting normal items and factory schematics have yeilded about 1k FS xp total in that amount of time. I've unlocked a couple more trees, but haven't even got the Novice Box in their groups yet.
At this rate, by letting come what may,I should finish the 6 trees by around 2018. Grinding is the only way to produce the amounts of xp required by these trees. And I won't do it.
Quest-Based FSSystem. Bah.
I've gotten some neat items, though! That's all the Village is worth to a me as a casual gamer. My Bacta Tank sold for a pretty penny...

DTUEntities wrote:I don't understand you people who whine about grinding to Jedi, when all you do when you are Jedi is GRIND, so if you don't like the grinding in FS, you will absolutely hate the Jedi grinding as you need a lot more xp to progress and lose xp when you die etc. and you can only really grind solo in the middle of nowhere, so why moan about the system getting to a profession you will probably hate anyway.
GOOD POINT ... if you wanna become Jedi, stop wnining about the grind. coz FS grind is only the beginning, when Grinding Jedi there is a lot more XP to get and hey guess what ..... don't get killed by any BH ....., in my guild i have a noob that whants to become Jedi, he did not even mastered any profession yet, he always wants help to grind TK coz he does not like to solo .....and He thinks getting to Jedi will be that easy as to just go get some POI .... then he glow, the he starts the FS grind, and then i know for shure he is gonna post a message here whining about the FS and The Jedi grind that is to long or to hard or whatever ... hey bad new THIS IS PRETTY EASY COMPARE TO JEDI GRIND...
Sorry just fustrated of reading about these PPL whining about this grind... just wanna say you going to be Jedi ... A JEDI .... its SUPPOSED TO BE LONG AND HARD, its more than an Elite prof ...

Grinding is not hard.
Not for the FS grind, anyway. I'm looking forward to the challenge of the jedi grind, but I'm still 4 unlocks away from that.
Stop being so proud of yourselves for withstanding the "pain" (*rofl*) of FS grinding and spare us your sanctimonious BS. What you've done is demonstrate the cognitive ability of a trained monkey, just like me, just like every other FS grinder.
People talk about the grind controlling the jedi population. I maintain that it only stops the people with the least interest/motivation in being a jedi. Want to know real population control? Hard caps on the number of people allowed to do any quests each cycle. Hard caps on the number of jedi on a server, either as a flat number or as a percentage of population. Hard caps on the number of people allowed to even progress from FS to the padawan trials. Removing inactive jedi. Banning eBay jedi. Those are methods of population control.
People talk about the grind slowing down the rate people become jedi. I maintain that the only people slowed down by it are the most casual gamers, the ones who can't cap their XP multiple times per week. What would slow people down more? How about instead of a minimum of 14 weeks in the village, a much longer minimum? Maybe 52 weeks? Maybe more? A full year - there wouldn't be any post-patch jedi at all yet. That's certainly an effective way to slow people down.
In short, my point is this:
Finishing the FS process is too fast and too easy for most people. Grinding for FS is not a challenge, fails to discourage most people from trying, and fails to effectively slow down the onslaught of jedi.
I would have preferred a content based system because it's much, much easier to control how quickly people could progress through it. But then, I can't help wondering if maybe that's exactly what some of you are so afraid of.
In closing, let me repeat it one more time. Maybe it'll sink in.
Grinding is not hard.
Please stop answering me as though the grind is any kind of obstacle. It simply isn't. Not for me, and not for most of the people here.

DTUEntities wrote:yes, i understand what you are saying mcorey, but the point is Jedi is just a longer grind, grinding maybe be easy, but that's all you do in Jedi, so the FS grind is just preparation for that grind.
Absolutely. As I said, I'm looking forward to the actual jedi grind, even though it'll take far longer than the FS grind. But I'm not sure preparation is the right term to use in describing the FS grind relative to the jedi grind, simply because the FS (combat) grind (ignoring grenadiers and non-combat routes for the moment) is typically done with at least one master combat profession, often speedcapped, typically wearing full armor. The jedi grind is unarmored, has extremely weak damage output initially until you've gained millions of XP, yields low XP for moderate to dangerous opponents, and has the added handicaps of the death penalty and of needing to be done while carefully avoiding all PCs and NPCs.
That's a challenge in my book, and one I look forward to. It's the kind of challenge that I'd like to see in some of the non-jedi professions, where you can knock out nearly anything in a day or three of dedicated effort and no skill, thought, or caution is required. It's one of the reasons I'm still hopeful about the CURB - jedi is sufficiently challenging to pique my interest, and is (currently) considered "finished" by the devs. If they implement even a fraction of that challenge back into the standard profs, I'll be pretty happy with it. But I digress.
As far as preparation goes, the only thing the FS grind does is warm you up for the raw numbers involved. For the actual skills and mindset required, it does nothing. Heck, for the last month I did my grind on Canyon Corsairs. A newly minted padawan doing that would essentially be committing suicide by proxy. Actually, to recycle my own phrase, my problem with the FS grind is that people call it hard when no skill, thought, or caution is required. In that sense, I'd even go so far as to say that it completely fails to prepare you for the jedi grind.
Thanks for the feedback, though.
