Thread: Problem with Old Man / Sith Shadows

You know this isn't true right? Have you read the FAQ's at the top of this forum? I made an entire new character post CU and he has already made it to the village and unlocked a freakin' branch.
This all happened to me aswell.I got incapped during the first atack. I deleted the datapad, The old man came again and so did the sith, but twice because the first datapad i looted i couldnt read for some reason, but it was only 2min apart so... Now i'm fs grinding like h**ll ![]()
Good luck y'all
The Sith just turned up for me as I arrived in Mos Lowlands (wasn't expecting them quite so soon...) anyway, due to the lag and the sheer volume of people there, I didn't even notice them until I was incapped. So, I get up, walk over to hit one of them with my Pike when two players kill them off for me. Yeah. Thanks. Er.. very helpful. Of course I can't loot the corpses so have to go back to waiting for the old man again.
99.9% of my time in SWG has been excellent and I've been lucky enough to play with some really great people but I've been running into a few folk lately who couldn't give a rats wotsits to how much time you've put into this game and just run in and kill the thing you've only had the chance to hit once.
It reminds me of the bad old days of mission stealing.
I accept that some people just don't realise but it's okay to be annoyed - isn't it?

Bah! Whiner.
I recently completed this quest (with some help or course) with a combat level one character with NO combat skills at all. Not even novice brawler or novice marksman. It certainly takes some planning, but it is possible.
In particular, the first hit from either of the Sith was usually 3-4 times my entire health, even if I was buffed.
, so I had to be ready for them when they arrived. So here's my advice to anyone who's having trouble...
1. There appears to be a real world minimum timer between visits of the Sith and the old man. For practical purposes, I believe that this means that you are way more likley to be attacked just after you log in, or shortly after your first few flights after logging in. Step away from the game for a day or two, and be ready when you log back in.
2. Don't throw away your bugged datapad that says you're unable to understand the contents. You appear to get one of these when you're incapped during combat, but successfully loot a datapad. Here's what I observed... Shortly after logging in, I was travelling between player city shuttle ports and actively watching for Sith ambushes. I was also occassionally trying to use the waypoint datapad, just because.
Suddenly, the message changed from the usual "you can't understand" message to something like "You must first loot this item before it can be examined". Hmm, that's curious. The game thinks the datapad is not in my inventory. Sure enough, my Sith were a few hundred meters away, and I was fully prepared when they jumped me.
3. Good combat advice from the crafty squid... Run away!
As soon as the combat music started, I assumed it was them and burst ran. They got off a couple of shots, but it was at long range, and they missed. Bottom line. They're easy with a couple of level 80 guildies and a Jedi friend. I was careful to be the group leader (for looting privs), and I also tried to run in a fire at least one shot at each Sith before my guildies owned them.
This worked for me, and I'm now in the village happily doing my crafting quests and turning in my merchant xp so it isn't wasted.
I'm curious, how many others have made it to the village with no combat skills? Are you planning on obtaining any combat skills now? (I'm not). Has anyone tried taking Mel without combat skills?
