Exact same thing for me also. I'm not to interested in a sculpture piece, but getting a little something else might be nice (hint: Action buff crystal). Capt told me Good job, then told me to frock off. Bastage. I tried to duel him, but he declined 
Like you I went and talked to the other folks, even the Elder, no joy. Ah well, i'm still out killing critters, but a reward would have been nice.

mellons that act like damage stims: 1000 heal to health, action, and mind at a filling of 10.
However, you need to grow the plant to do this, which is NOT an easy task and it is possible for the plant to die.

its nt unfair at all i did melee n im not too bovd abt reward if u read the guide properly depending on which one at the top theres a list of what u get each phase (snuggles) it says 1) This information is based on TC testing and may or may not reflect how things are in Live. I will update as soon as information is available. Updates are coming in and changes are being made, please be patient and 2) [ER] = Enhanced Reflexes 1) Sculpture 3/4 2) Focus Crystal 3) Ranged Defense Limited Buff 4) N/A

I havent done it yet but when i do i wish to get something. How about filling the first 2 boxes so all you have to do is the last 2 boxes for melee def.....Wishful thinking.
