i did 4 branches this week... i have 2 boxes left nades are easy.. but mind numbing. But this game is 200 Times easiser than EQ 1. You all couldn't hack it over there if you think this s_hit is hard.

I haven't used grenades at all, but thats just because it would have drained all my credits away. I have nothing against the grenade method either, and if I were to go through this grind again with another character, I would probably use grenades. But, it doesn't really take that long to max out using other weapons, at least for me.

Even if your a casual grinder, it may take you 3 weeks to finish one branch, but each phase is 3 weeks, right? So you finish right on time to begin your next branch. Even if your a heavy grinder when you play, you can bank xp and save it for when you do unlock a branch you want.

In my case, I'm master TK/Pike/Swords, so each time I max, I get 180k FS xp. Not too bad considering I only have to max out about 7 times per branch. I hardly play during the week, becuase ofwork and school, butI've been grinding since last Phase 1 (around X-mas). I'm almost done with my xp grind now Just need to unlock 2 more branches I want from Phase 2 and 3.

In the end though, this grind is only as fun as you make it. If you think this grind is boring and blows while your grinding, then it will be bad for you. But if you think it's fun, then you will have fun

Very true. Grenade grinding is a very expensive way of doing it. This is where I think the trade off occurs, if you wanna lose a huge part of your bank accout but grind alot faster, do 'nades. If you want to keep your bank account, do it with straight weaps. I can testify that I had alot of creds to my name before the 'nade grind but now i'm down to less than 1 half my bank balance in just over a week. But the FS xp i've gained in the meantime would have taken me 3 times as long to getandIMHOI find thatcredits are easier to grind than FS xp so I don't worry too much about it.

My goalis to always try to at least cover the cost of the 'nadeswhen I go out(4 gbn lairs will cover one crate of 25stacks of c12s on my server) and if I run outta grenades, I go out with just rifles and do a couple more lairs to get some profit. The way I look at it is (non-solo), I can make 40k in 15 mins or less using Rifles which translates to a crate of 25 stack C12s which translates to 5 gbn lairs, 55k in creds, and 125k combat xp in just under an hour. Considering it used to take me an entire buff session to cap weap xp, this is considerably more efficient use of my time. Plus it's always nice to know that if I've just completed some activity with guildmates and have only 30 mins left on a buff I can head to dath and earn an easy 60k combat xp

I also find that this grind does bring back the ol difficulty factor in the game. Doing strictly rifles, I could mow through a lair fast (but get much less combat xp) and not get hurt at all. Since anyone with a master combat prof and buffs becomes god-like to regular critters, it makes the grind even more boring. With 'nades, I find myself actually healing myself in battle and making smart choices whether to hang on to the end to get that last nitch or bail to heal up. Personally, it feels like itbrings back the noob (non-godlike) fun to a veteran level.

Hey chef, I discovered grenadesit too in this forum and I agree grenades is the best way to maxx out XPif you want to do other things during playtime and have the credits to do so. I have accumulated 5.5 millon FSXP in casual playtime over a5 week period, I will be XP done in about 3 weeks then Ill just have to wait for 2 more phase shifts.

Coincedentaly, I also have a chef on the valcyn server...send me a tell sometime we can help each other out on the Mel Exit quest.

I did grind to Commando 4/0/0/0 to try the grenade method. I did not like it, and instead spent the SP's on getting two more elite melee profs, and have been grinding away since.

I'm going for Jedi and I will not use one grenade. I'd like to feel a sense of accomplishment when I unlock, and using nades takes no effort or skill to do.

Spamming the same special over and over takes no effort or skill. Throwing nades also takes no effort or skill and you get about 3 x or more the xp per buff. If you only grind every time you play (like me right now) then it is a waste of time to use melee profs if you can afford the nade grind.

Some good responses. Obviously there is a difference of opinion - which is only natural. I used to be in the anti-nade camp and can understand the arguments. Realistically the only issue is cost, plain and simple. Arguments that allude to doing the grind the tough way for a 'sense of accomplishment' are a little tougher to understand. If you have the money and have completed the grind with nades then you will have had to raise the 8mill or so in cash yourself in-game to begin with - this is an equally good accomplishment.

I am still finding it a tough grind WITH nades (mainly for the monotony of it) so I have a lot of respect for the 'weapons only' grinders. But will they find the Jedi grind easier because they've done it this way - I doubt it.
