Ok,

So i kill two sith shadows and loot both. One gives me a data disk. I "Use" the disk and it tells me "extracting data". Then nothing, nothing in my data pad, nothing in my inventory. Am i missing something?

I try to "Use" again and the disk tells me "You must first loot this item before extracting the data".

Can anyone help me out here? Has anyone run in to this?

One of my characters is waiting on the sith right now. While waiting an Imperial shuttle dropped off a squad right next to me. I quickly put some distance between myself and th Stormies.

Officially they can take the same amount of time as is possible with the Old Man visit (not to be confused that it WILL take that amount of time). It can take up to 72 hours for the Old Man to visit, same with the Sith Shadows. Sometimes they will come within 15 minutes of each other, or you could wait 3 days for the Old Man and another 3 days for the Sith, or you could wait 3 days for the Old Man, and have the Sith come in one day. It's random, most likely on a seperate timer for each "visit" that involves certain circumstances (like you can't be in an NPC city). The point is, no one really knows what the circumstances are, or what the maximum time the timer is set for, it's all a bunch of guess work, really. It shouldn't take longer than 3 days for them to pop up though.

I was waiting for the Sith to show up, as I stated earlier was about 24 hours or so from the old man visit. I was just running around away from NPC cities, waiting for it to happen. Even though I was expecting it, it still scared the crap out of me when it went from my quiet footsteps running on Tatooine in the middle of nowhere, to the all of the sudden fight music. Needless to say I mercilessly pummeled the Sith.

The shadows appears as the sun sets. Be sure to carry a big flashlight (with strong batteries) to vanquish them.

Why do people pay to play a MMORPG but not want to interact with other people?
Why, SOELA, why? Did the entire management join a cult, and at the same time perform home lobotomies?
It takes less time to look at the stickies than to ask a question and wait for sarcastic replies. So please oh PLEASE ask the same question many times. I enjoy the sarcastic remarks.
