Thread: Solving the Jedi Population Explosion

Good thread. I agree whole heartedly on the fact they should be less visable, however disagree it should be that easy to get.

Originally back when the game first started I remember reading when a jedi uses their power they got lit up like a beacon to all bh's in the area. What happened to that? I think Jedi need to have some penalty for dying as well, that will keep them hidden. perma-death won't happened because of that kid, but some kind of penalty.

I don't agree. Your premise is a generalization about un-jedi like behavior, and all jedi must go attitude. Personally I roleplay my jedi well. I assist others with grinding. I assist others with difficult missions. I assist FS players with their first sith visits. I assist FS players during their exit missions. I am a supportive jedi who managed to gain my skill with whatever the game allowed me to use, exploit , or otherwise manage to get a full template. I don't hang about starports waving my LS around like I am at a scout camp flashlight party. I don't show off my powers for the sake of looking cool. I participate in base busting when I know our forces are superior and usually at SF bases. I am not a starport prima donna. In fact, I avoid them as much as possible, and do not wear my robes when I travel. Nevertheless, I am well known.

When I am in a group I enhance the groups combat effectiveness by keeping the healers healed, and the tankers standing. I chase down and suppress mobs when the aggro gets out of hand. I do what is necessary to reduce a players time loss from cloning. I only use my powers when I need to defend myself, or others grouped with me. I share my resources and loot with others in my group. I am a mentor for other padawans looking to advance their templates. How many jedi do you know like that? How many would you want to be around who play like that?

And my objection was never to people like yourself, but to the flashlight waving juveniles currently swearing a blue streak in all those highly public places. As I said I have met many nice Jedi so far, but seen far too many obnoxious ones.

The obnoxious, swearing juveniles will remain, regardless of whether they're somehow restricted from wearing robes.

My suggestion is to make it easy to be a Jedi - but make it extremely hard to be a Jedi in public under any cirumstances. That way we get a lessening, if not an end, to the endless "I wanna be a Jedi how can I do it in a week?" and "Its too hard" whines, we can end the "There are too many Jedi around" whines because the only time you will ever see one is when you are playing *your* Jedi in 90% of the cases. I venture to say that most if not all of the people who whine about the high rate of Jedi visibility (myself included) would cease complaining if they *never* saw another Jedi again - or at least only rarely.

Unfortunately that's the price one pays for being in a MMO and running througha starport. Not to go all R/L on you, but it's a freedom of speech issue. Are they young, annoying and capable of driving one crazy? Absolutely! However they do also have the right to hang out in the starports and duel each other, etc., if that's their playstyle. Realize also that if you're suggestion is primarily "reduce the annoyance" driven, then spamming at the MOP is next, followed by many other annoying behaviors...

I like the idea of restricting/making jedi harder and/or rare, but trying to say they're simply unable to draw a weapon or put clothes on is going too far, especially as it punishes the "wiser" jedi.

If Jedi are not out grinding - but have to do missions to advance effectively and efficiently - but can't use their powers anywhere in an NPC city or within 500m of a NPC trainer/vendor/etc (except when attacked by a BH) you are never going to see the flashing Lightsabers unless you meet them out in the wild - and they are going to avoid that because they still gain visibility.

I'd suggest there be heavier penalties for waving the saber around. (Actually as a respec'd MBH, I'm guilty for not doing my part in reducing the annoying ones myself...).

Sith Jedis might be a goodidea for the crazy population. And by adding Sith VS Jedi 24/7. That way some Jedis can't walk around flexing on the streets. Both will have BH as enemy and also Sith or Jedi.

It might hit the low lvl Jedis hard. But then again we will be back to the old days. They must hide. Or it will turn into Sith vs Jedis fight on the streets... and we start grying over that. I dunno, but I think Sith would help.

Both are Jedi like now, but then the player can go Light, Dark or Sith. All are open for fight everytime and BH can hunt them all. Might work. =)

Players can't be Sith.
Any Jedi that isn't Vader or Palpatine that uses the Dark Side is just a Dark Jedi, not a Sith.

You obviously didn't spend the time to read my original post, or you would have gotten the fact that I had included a suggestion that the devs *add* a path that allows the player Jedi to become Sith - since so many want to be one.

Jedi get blamed for messing up the continuity enough as it is.
I didn't have to read your reasons to be able to tell you there are no other Sith.
It's not like Jedi where Yoda and Obi-Wan were vague about it, there's the Rule of Two, it's not a grey area or a question. There just aren't other Sith.
Once the FRS is back Jedi can be Dark Jedi and have the title of Dark Jedi, but that's it.

That's like saying since alot of people like Vader we should all be able to get his armor. 1000 people supporting a bad idea doesn't make it a good idea.

Being jedi is like buying a car.

You feel so special when you buy it like man this is a awesome car im so cool.....

Then on your way home you notice everyone else has that same car but with a better color or options.

How to solve the problem is to get over it.
