Wrong.. He has to use a weapon, he isn't certified. When I use my VKs (TKM) with quenkers, than I get around 2805 combat xps, when I use a Pistol (certification from Pistoleer), than I get 3308 combat xps.. Its around 20%+ with an uncertified weapon. And there is a nade grind guide which states the same, as I can remember (but i lost my mind the last time I was fighting a force crystal hunter).

It depends on the difficulty of the creature and your skills. Some creatures will give you higher XP when you are a lower level other give you lower XP.

something tells me you're all looking too deeply into this.
I can confirm the following:
I am Master TKA, Master Brawler
I often have my VK's equipped or not. It doesn't make any difference to the amount of experience earnt.
I always get approx 5000 combat xp per kill (5500 if you count the 10% xp bonus of combat xp on top)
If you're not grouped, you will ONLY get a MAX of ~3500xp
The only other reason i can think of for lack of xp is if you're using an un-certified weapon.
You only need to be grouped with your pet to receive the full XP bonus for grouping. I group with my lvl 10 bantha or my mouse droid, i still get ~5000 xp per kill. If i don't group, i only get ~3500-4000xp
Simple as that.

The answer to this is simple. You have to have mastered one advanced combat profession. Before I was TKM i was getting around 3500 xp per giant baz nitch as well. Now that I'm TKM I get about 5500 xp per. It's very simple.
