You never get a msg, but when you become a Jedi Padawan (completed the padawan trials) you can create a new character.
What if you decide to give up padawan and FS skills? Do you keep your second slot?

You cannot surrender Padawanor any FS skills once you become Jedi. If you do not want to play the Jedi anymore, then you would just not play that character and just play the other one. If you delete that character, I believe you would lose the other character as well.

Not sure about this. But if you did open the second slot, then delete your jedi, I believe the second slot character would still be active.
However, the ability to open a second slot on a server seems to be linked to the padawan novice box. So since your second slot character would not have novice padawan, you no longer would be able to create a second character on that server if you deleted the main who has novice padawan.

Is there a certain number of Padawan trials you have to do?
Sorry if this has been asked before. I had the question in another post, but for some reason it got deleted--which I find very odd...?

All of them must be done, which is 16 trials.

I believe there is now a "flag" on your account that says if you have opened your second char or not.. once you -have-, it is -always- there..
You CAN drop Padawan/Initiate/all FS skills on your main. There is -currently- (not sure when it will be fixed) a bug that prevents you from dropping your Force Progression boxes, but the Devs have stated that you are supposed to be able to drop -everything- back to a normal toon once you have your second slot.
I have not seen anything (yet) on if you -have- to have a Padawan to -keep- the second slot.. I'd guess that once you have it it's there for ever. If you -delete- the second (or main, then second), there should be no effect.. You should always be able to have 2 chars on that server (and only that server though.. I'm guessing that code is all still in effect).
You can also (in theory) have 2 Jedi.. you just have to run the second char up the path again.. I also believe that now, if you delete your Jedi (anyone, even pre-9 unlockers) you have to start from -scratch- to have the Jedi again..

Thanks for the help. Unfortunate that this topic isn't covered in any oficial FAQs or the Holocron, and CSRs won't reply to anything Force related.

Hello,
With all the jedi problems, I would take the occasion while they fix this (if they ever do), to get and skill the new alt you get after having jedi.
My question is, when exactly do you get access to create a second character?
