My suggestion is to make sure at least on person in your group is level 80 to prevent the one hit killing you are describing. I managed to tank him for all the missions I assisted with and am just a TKA Master with some other minor combat skills (combat rating 59). Seems perfectly reasonable to me that he should be tough however my mission was bugged for two days and would not spawn.
