Thread: What if SOE brought back Jedi permadeath?

I've said it once and I'll say it again... there already was permadeath and saber tef.... they removed it for a reason, cus it didn't work... would it work now? probably not because jedi wasn't what it used to be.... nothing is how it used to be

while we're talking about being immersed or emmersed .. however you spell it.... into star wars..... not everyone roleplays.. some people play the game to be jedi.... jedi is an endgame profession in my opinion and a lot of people have already played this game for so long that there is nothing else to do butgo jedi

they should classify swg servers like wow does.... roleplay, pvp and normal servers... that'd be nice so all the people that want to roleplay can go to one server and stop bothering those of us that just want to kill people

but to answer the question posted in the subject.... if SOE brought back permadeath, I would probably play my character like I used to pre pub 9 with saber tef, but a lot would have to change before saber tef or permadeath were re-implemented ( in my opinion )

so by your logic, because I pay 15/month and I like having a SWG feel, you are taking away from how I want to play.......SEE??? it goes both ways.

What if they brought back the Blue Glowies after a Jedi dies in order to bring continuity back to the game?

How would they do it?

1.) Reinstate the Jedi 'perma'death/blue-glowy.

2.) New Code 66 storyline in order to purge the jedi - regardless of their faction standing.

3.) Recreate the Jedi system and make it a mystery again.

Would you accept something like this?

This would be unacceptable, however I would like to see "perma"death implemented in a little less harsh way.

My version of "perma"death would be when a jedi gets 3 deaths, they become a blue glowie for a length of time - this would be in exchange for xp loss.I think something like this would be fun, as well as help community relations. Instead of losing all the xp I worked to get and getting a personalsense of loss. I would lose time that could have been spent grinding xp, but that time can be spent actually playing my alt character or roleplaying with the glowie instead of just regrinding the xp I lost.

Well, I left Dec. 3rd and like I promised I came back to give you another chance.
So Sony, impress me with the new system - not good enough, back to WoW 3/06 !
I am back again 3 months later giving you 1 last chance.
Looks like I will be staying, keep up your hard work.

Let's put perma-death on your main character first, just as a test. Come back and let us all know how it works out for you, k?

I wouldnt mind at all. Actually. It is a matter of being accountable for youor your toons actions while ingame. Sure, there is the occasional ctd, but that is why pd was not on the first death, but rather the 3rd death. I will volunteer. It is not so bad as people think, and many many veterans came through permadeath with their jedi intact.

When permadeath was in effect, your Jedi was an additional FSCS, not your main that you've put hundreds of hours into. And in accordance with the "risk vs. reward" that everyone keeps crowing about, Jedi were absolutely alpha-class, a mid-grind padawan able to obliterate 5 elite profs without much effort. Not thenerfed-half-to-death profession that it is now.

That being said... be my guest, because permadeath will never be put backinto effect. Since you so happily volunteer, then the next time your main character dies, I expect you to log out and delete him, no cloning allowed, no transfer of inventory, or credits, or housing ownership allowed.

option 1 would litterally kill the game... and i've said it all along that xp rates will not control the jedi population but changing the way to glowy would! anyone who does the slightest bit of research knows the badge list that gets you glowy. me, i didn't seek jedi and i didn't become glowy until my 75th badge and i reached 100 badges before becoming jedi. It needs to be randomized again!

You must not have been around during permadeath, because as I understood it, your character did not get erased, just the skill points. That is where the fact of permadeath turned myth.

Whatever. Please surrender all of your skills including FS upon your next character death, let us know how you make out.

I have an idea that would make everyone happy. Let's put in perma-death for every combat profession, no?.....I didn't think so.

Why do people keep suggesting that perma death for a main combat toon is anyway relevent to a discussion about Jedi perma-death? The Jedi is meant to be an addition in this system, and a VOLUNTARY one. In perma-death, it is a true alpha-class. The perma-death system was by far the most creative idea that SOE had for this game, and of course bowing to complaints they removed it. Most of the rest of the gaming industry laughed at them for doing so, and are still laughing.

It wouldn't be called "perma-death". It would be called "perma-cancelled".
