again my personal opinion is that to even begin the village you must be a 12 month veteran... like a veteran reward.
Couldn't agree more. But like somebody else mentioned, perhaps 6 months would be better.

Hologrinding hurt the game and ruined the economy. Everyone was grinding out crafting masters and flooded the market with overprized crap before they dropped it and did the same thing all over again with a different profession.
One of the jedi's most important skills is patience. The new unlocking and quest system is very good compared to hologrinding, at least in my opinion:
You can become FS and enhance your skills as a tregular character
You have to do quests (and some of them rahter hard) to get there
It takes at least a given amount of time to become a jedi.
I also think that there could be a minimum time limit (maybe 3 or 6 months) for a char to be able to enter the Village at all, but that is not important. The thing is that this system doesn't kill the economy in the same way that hologrinding did.
Oh, and as the others say: the grind hasn't even begun before you actually hit jedi, so if you think that this is hard you may as well quit now.....

The time factor exists for several very good reasons, and should not be removed. I truly like the concept of adding a 12 month veteran requirement for village entry. I love being a Jedi, but there is much more to this game, and a player should experience that before they put their feet on the Jedi path. Also, it would insure those who quest Jedi know the game and are serious about the quest. Jedi can be obtained all to quickly at this point. The General concept for the village is great, mindless xp grinding aside, but can be completed to quickly. The Devs knew what they were doing when they made each phase take 3 weeks, it does not need changed.

I find it very funny when ppl complain about how long it's going to take to unlock and blah, blah, blah. WTH don't you think it should take a while? I still think it's to easy to become jedi now. I will agree that this grind is worse in the sense that it's boring, atleast when you do profs your learning something new.

i unlocked using holos before the change and now about to unlock on my unlocked slot under the new system, i feel the new system takes about half the time than the old holo system so all in all youve got it good

THe system is much better than the hologrinding. End of the story. That being said... what we really need is a veteran reward based on how long you have been a master at a profession. If I have been a master Pistoleer for practically 2 years, I think that I should awarded 50 more skill points. It makes sense. So scream abotu it people! WE NEED MORE SKILL POINTS!!!!

Hi everyone,
Speaking as a Jedi who started with the old system and finished with the new, I'm going to give my two cents:
1) The hologrinding system was more fun because you could try different professions and make money while you were at it. In addition, it allowed you to consider alternative options for your secondary character. I had fun with hologrinding and so I'll recommend it over the Village for the "fun" category
2) As others have mentioned, Hologrinding ruined the economy, and so it was impractical. No one got hit harder than entertainers, who are still recovering from those days. The new system is long, boring, and repetitive, but it allows SOE to guarantee that we'll pay more money, AND it keeps the economy in check. Since SOE is a business, I have to say that the Village was a smart move on their part: Save their economy in-game and out-of-game.
3) For those who say that the road to Jedi is nothing compared to actually grinding Jedi, I will say from my experience that it isnt so. Based on raw numbers it would most certainly appear to be the case, but in reality, Jedi is much easier to grind. Isay this because I was using high-end crystals obtained by my alt and I read sites on how to go about getting xp faster. When I grinded xp using grenades, however, I had to worry about constantly having enough money (harder now because of the solo group nerf), there being a supply of decently priced grenades (I've never had over 1 million in-game), and I also had to compete with the sheer boredom of watching the grenade animation. Jedis DO have to go solo, but the best xp/time ratio for getting FS xp is also solo, so no change there. Once you get to saber 4, the xp seems to fly!
4) As a side note, I should also mention another reason why grinding FS xp seemed to be a major problem for me.I was enjoying the holo grind system, but they changed it on me. I have no way of knowing if they'll decide to change the village after a set period of time. I know that they revamp jedi's on a 1-for-1 ratio, but many people who hologrinded got left in the cold with the change. It is toa FS xp grinder'sadvantage to grind out xp as fast as possible to avoid a future change, where a Jedi can be relatively secure without levelling up at the same pace. Also, the combat rebalance could be in a year or a month. When it DOES it, we'll most likely see an end to defeating a whole lair of stalkers in a minute. Thats another reason that it is to a grinder's advantage to earn xp as fast as possible. This rushed feeling really ruined the system for me.
In the end, I have to say that I dont like the new system but I see why they use it. Also, the xp thing is just like Harvard--its hard to get in, but once you're there, its not so bad
