It is terrible for the players, but from a continuity (sp)point of view, it makes sence IMHO.

I originally created my primary character (back in February) under the assumption that the primary would become a Jedi, eventually, when I figured out how the "unlock" thing worked.
Then I discovered that holo-grinding was what I had to do to unlock, and the second slot character would be the jedi. Okay,I could live with that.
And then things changed again, and the main was the primary jedi. I thought "Great."
See, it's all about what assumptions *you* make when you create a character. I made the assumption that my primary character was a "real" character, so I chose a "real" name, not a throwaway name, and built a history/biography based on that.
So, I wasn't dissapointed when changes were made, and I kind of prefer the current system.
A little foresight goes a long way in an MMORPG whose code base is constantly changing.

Throwing in my two credits here as well. It makes zero sense to spend all the time and effort to getting your primary character Force Sensitive, helping the village, doing the trials and finally becoming a Jedi only to have your alternate character take it from there. Zero sense. You spent all that time getting that character to where it is, it has a history, it should carry on. Regardless of what silly thoughtless name you gave it when you started out.
Obviously the developers agreed and in the end, I think it's the right choice.

I think a name change might be a great idea. I am not sure I want my main to bea Jedi since I used my IRL name for the toon that I am grinding the village with. Please allow name change and allow us to make the new toon take the first toon's name if we chose to.

Why put in a race change? Personally I am glad we no longer have a 100% Zabrak population.

Personally I would like to see the option for a name change when you unlock. Giving you the option to hide who your chars real identity before you finally chose the path of the Light or Dark side. So much could be tossed into this concept story wise. For Light Jedi's hiding your real name so the Empire cant take revenge on your family and etc.

IMO the one who does the questing gets the FS
not quite sure why you even get a new character slot, but its a cool freebie....
name changing is not even a possibility due to the HUGEopening for griefers..thats been said officially many times.
it would be cool to get rid of all of the lame names out there but who says the new choices wouldnt be even more lame ?
ive seen the idea floated about smugglers being able to hide someones name temporarily. this might be a fun thing, and good for rp, but
the actual changing of names simply wont happen.

Don't EVER say this out loud again ! EVER.
Now that the first char becomes FS, the free slot has indeed no meaning, but don't say that out loud. You might give the devs ideas !

The second slot is *not* a freebie. It's there forthe samereason that you unlocked a Jedi slot under the old system; so that you can play with your friends on the same server while your Jedi is in "time-out" waiting to clear visibility.

Actually, an opportunity for a single-time automatic name change on making jedi padawan might be nice. It is a life-changing event, and name changes in the Star Wars universe did occur occasionally. Most people who created their character did so as a total newbie, having no idea what to expect from the game. Some created their name to reflect their newbie status. Since a jedi is a target, and since the jedi grind is not exactly secret, this would allow a new character a certain degree of anonymity.
I also like the idea of a chance to revisit the character generation screens for a fee in real money. The fee should be substantial enough to prevent repeated changes, and the reason for the change should be part of the application to change. There are a few legitimate reasons for wanting an identity change, but if the process is difficult enough, it should be a reasonable barrier to griefing.
Even in real life, an identity change is possible--but very difficult.
All that being said, even given the option, I would not change my character. I am against going back to the old system, especially the holo grind, but I think there are other ways to address the original poster's issues. I also believe the issues themselves are valid.

Ok im sry. I guess when i posted this I wasent clear enough.
In NO way do I want the Holo Grind back. I wanted the second slot to become the Jedi. But now Ive read all the replies and I liked some of the suggestions.
I made my char thinking id be a Master BH not thinking id be a Jedi. And the reason i want the name change is because some guild friends want to have names from books/games based around the 3 kingdoms. I know LA has forbiden a name change but perhaps on completing the Padawan Trials you could have a free name change.
