I can see it now: Crafters start a string of murders, but no bodies are found. Police suspect that bones are being used by Armorsmiths, meat by Chefs, and skin by Tailors, all of which are being harvested by Rangers. The revolt has begun!

Ranger is a combat profession

It's only a Combat Profession because it gives CLs, but it (alone) is just as weak as a pure crafter anyways (except the Ranger has traps that he can use to get away.)
Of course, my post was more of a play on how SOE ignores many of the fun professions (Ranger being one of them) and boosts the more popular, power professions.

I'm seriously considering doing this with my crafter alt just to prove the Gunbunnies wrong....

Combat sure, but its 'possible' for a pure crafter to get glowy if they have help on the Themeparks since most of those require combat of some sort. But once a crafter is glowy, they can do the Crafter only quests, but what do they get? Alot of useless FS skills...certainly not Jedi material. FS Defenses and melee combat are actually worth something, if someone was going for Jedi why would they go for senses and crafting?
If someone really wants to be Jedi they can do it without combat skills, but they'll be sorely lacking in the skills and knowledge they need to survive as a Jedi.. Jedi isn't an uber crafting profession, its a combat profession, so someone that unlocks and completes the trials with the help of friends will probably have 0 knowledge of the SWG combat system... they wouldn't get past their first mission killing pikets

Ahh, but once they get their 6 branches, then they can get other branches while doing the Paddy trials and what not (as long as they have help with Mel...) and become just as good as anyone else....
Besides, I have a combat alt and know plenty about combat, so if I take my crafter to Jedi I will be just as viable in combat as anyone else. Very few crafters are JUST crafters any more, having at least one combat character on another server or another account....
As far as Themeparks, well, if you team with one CL 80 PC everything you face will con Gray to you, making said Themeparks a walk through.....especially with CL 80 backup.
One of the saddest aspects of SWG's Jedi system is that Jedi=Combat, even though the EU is packed with Jedi Teachers, Healers, Crafters and Politicians. SWG and the Dev's have CHOSEN to make Jedi=Combat and thus made the entire thing cheaper in many eyes...
Besides, after having a Jedi Knight pull a Force Run train of a bunch of Un'osori (sp?) Thrashers past the small non-Jedi group I was with in his mad rush to get to the NK Necrosis room, Jedi are becoming less and less in my eyes.
Soon, all content will be out of the reach of non-Jedi because the (WAAAAAY) too many Jedi and their whinny 1.5 strength, "don't hurt us", we shouldn't be controlled battle-cry will make this entire game so Jedi-centric as to force other players out. But this is simply my opinion and isn't stopping me from trying to unlock so that I can compete with everyone elses Jedi in hopes of getting to enjoy content..
