Logged on today and got system messages saying:
"Defend the village against Mellichae's shadow sith outlaw"
Youhave failed your task
and
"Defend the village against Mellichae's shadow sith pirates"
You have failed your task
Does this mean that you could of unlocked 2 branches in phase 4 but no one tried ? Since i already unlocked Melee defense for phase 4.

You could only lock one, both tasks were required to unlock. And yes, it means that the European servers have shifted to Phase 1 (and we can expect many more shifts when the North American ones shift too)

I got this message too, curious as I'd obviously unlocked the melee defense branch as I filled it up.

I got the same message too, even though I completed the tasks and it shows in my journal as being complete. So what gives? Did I complete it, or did I fail it? And if I did fail it, what does that mean for when phase 4 comes around again?

Maybe its because the Melee branch is more broken than just a reward

infinity HAS switched to phase 1. /points at SSSnuggles' thread about phase updates.

I got this message as well, but it's in my journal as completed, and there had been no quests in my journal to do since the other night when I completed it. Does this just mean the village has switched phases...and that I don't have to do it over?

its because in the story line of the village it gets almost completely destroyed after the sith attack, that is why it is in rubble in phase 1. i dont think it means that YOU failed ur quest. i think that WE ALL failed in that the village got devastated and is now in ruins.
