Thread: The Slightly Longer...Why I really dont like this new exchange rate
Thanks to those who read it....
Last thing I wanted to do was come off like a whiner, and a complainer, but I'm pretty disapointed. It's kind of funny though, while making is slower for folks to become jedi, SOE sure did help out existing Jedi right now...
....The Master Bounty Hunter NPC missions are dropping great loot right now, so most MBH's are off hunting NPC's now, and if the loot drop rate stays the same, I know it'll drive some value of those items down, but it sure has to be nice for the jedi who are getting a break from being hunted...

Funny thing is this change has no effect on people who are already Jedi. So it doesnh't actaully reduce Jedi, just the addition of new ones. Doesn't really fix anything in my opinon.
If they were to revisit the visibility issue and actually do something about Jedi showing off in NPC cities, it would help a lot.
As for too many Jedi in the game, there's nothing that can be done about that now, that's done and can't be fixed. But they could still fix it so that visibility of Jedi is at a minimum, there have been hundreds of good ideas posted about this and I'm sure one or two of the smarter and more ambitious dev's have those same ideas.
A couple of things I don't really understand about the dev's is that they seem to be operating on a timetable that leaves about 6 months in-between coming up with an idea, and actually having it put live and I just don't understand this at all. It seems to me that they have mired themselves in so much procedure and the approval process for changes like this have become so slow that they are effectively shooting themselves in both feet. These changes need to come at a faster rate, which means the approval process needs to be streamlined like crazy.
As it is, we'll probably see a lot of these changes that everyone wants, but it'll be 6 months to a year from now when the damage will already be done and the changes won't really matter to anyone but the total new guy who just signed up a week ago. It's almost like they're kicking the long-time subscriber in the crotch for no other reason then because they've become ineffective in making changes in a timely manner.
I also do realize that the approval process has probably been lengthened due to Lucas Arts taking a more direct role because of all the fiasco's that occurred early on in the game, but I think that they have forgotten that this is not a government, and it is not your typical business where you can let these things sit for so long before getting them into the game. This is a game and we, the customer, need to see these changes that are affecting our gameplay happen a lot quicker than what it has been.
Otherwise what your going to end up with is a bunch of people cancelling and resubbing every 6 months when a new system like the C.U. hits. Which is exactly what's gone on up until now, and it hasn't been a big help for the economy either.
Our whole economy is based on the fact that we need our crafters to stick around and be consistent, and that's just been blown out of the water as evidenced by all the ghost towns, empty vendors, and extremely over-inflated prices on stuff.
A brand new player to this game could sign up right now, today, and within 4 weeks they would realize that this game is still largely unfinished. Basic, CORE systems still are not operating, some, like the 3rd faction still hasn't even made it into the game. F.R.S. had been pulled a couple of times, the method for getting Jedi has been changed and is still largely broken (enough that it's fun for about2hours and frustrating/boring forthe other 18 weeks.) and I just don't see how they plan on making thisgame more popular, which it desperately needs, with thecurrent way that things are done.
I guess my biggest problem these days is that with all of these unpopular changes, it's become difficult to find good people to group and adventure with. I have absolutely no problem with all the kids who play the game, but I've also never had a problem finding a group of adults to group up with, at least not in any other game. SW:G seems to have lost a lot of players that played the role in the core professions for so long and so well, and it shows in almost every aspect of the game. There is something missing, and it's the players that we've lost over the last 2 years that SW:G has been live, and these players have left for 2 reasons and 2 reasons alone... A dislike of the changes that have been made, and a lack of progress in changes that NEED to be made.
Part of what makes a game great is the players. In every other MMORPG that I've played, the developers have never been that great at doing what needs to be done.. Always too slow, always taking the easy path (IE the Grind) to make up for lack of content, but good players that are fun to be around usually make up for all the failing's of the developers. Unfortunately, for a good portion of us, those good players are long gone, seemingly they've moved onto WoW (They do have 1.5 million subscribers, and there is a reason for it.) And it's now time SOE and Lucas Arts and everyone involved in this project to either step up to the plate and really get a handle on this stuff, or accept the fact that BOTH companies took a solid-gold idea and cursed it with mediocrity.

Very well said Grunzer, I couldnt agree more.
On a slightly different angle I might also add, the Devs are trying to reduce the Jedi population, but what they have done may very well increase it. As people delete there accounts and/or stop playing the actual Jedi population as a percentage of the actual "active" player base will probable increase, thereby compounding the problem they are trying to solve. This problem will also be compounded in the next month when school starts and player numbers always decrease dramatically. It is truly asad dayfor SWG.
maybe i'll just change my strategy a little. right now i'm master creature handler and master carbineer. i currently have two branches unlocked in the reflexes tree, but i've also been accumulating senses xp by converting my scouting and CH xp. so after i fill my two reflexes boxes, maybe i should just focus on unlocking the senses boxes for my remaining four. hmm....
...although, do any of the senses branches require crafting missions to unlock... cuz if so that could be a problem...
better go check the stickies... brb

When the village and the quests werein concept,I pictured it to be the way you posted Ekul.
Didn't think it would beone quest per phase and then grind so I am disappointed in that area too.
Great post Ekul!
Couldnt agree more. I am also a casual player. Been here since launch, took a break from the gamefor a while and came back after CU. Have to say they made a lot of improvements in game and finally made the decision to do the grind for Jedi. I grind my first tree out, thinking to myself this is not fun, but will continue on to finish the grind. Saw the postregardingthe conversion rate andwas very concerned. Was happy when they said they removed the conversion rate change from test center, thinking to myself thank"goodness" andcan at least finish my grind before they change it now. What a complete kick in the teeth to find out this morningthat they went a head and changed it anyway. They only took it off test center so they didnt have to listen toeveryone complain. What aspineless way to manage yourplayerbase. We all pay a decent amount of money to play, the least the Devscould do is take it like men and at least post a statement, and take a stand on it. Instead theytry to quietly putitin.Yes, I may agree there are too many jedi, but they opened the floodgates, not me.SoDevsI guess you were right, this willcertainly reduce the number of Jedi. I only hope you loose ten fold the number of subscriptions forevery jedi you keep off your servers. As for me I amdone, I have hadfour accounts since the beginning for myself and family, and as of now they are cancelled. I only hope more will follow, maybe in thefuture you will learn to make better decisions.
To all the players
thanks for all the good times, it has been fun
