A scope does 3 things: increases your range modifiers (+to hit), increases wound% and increases HAM costs.

The trick to making uber weapons is to use the best resources possible and pray to the experimentation god. Beyond that, learn what people are looking for in a weapon. Do they want it fast for grinding? Do they want max damage? Do they want a high wound chance?
The only other trick is be willing to waste resources or make less than uber weapons. Sometimes you will make 4 or 5 of a weapon before you get one that really shines. Sometimes it takes longer. Experimentation is random, so you need to have patience and a willingness to take a risk. Check out a weaponsmith's vendor sometime and you will see for example VK's for a variety of prices. That is because some worked out better than others, or some are more suited to a particular task like pvp or grinding.

Really what it all comes down to is 4 thing's
1) The resouces
2) The experiment
3) The loot to make weapons ( cubes,cores,krayt,ackly )
4) The Slicing
So really what it takes to be a great weaponsmith is alot of credits alot of luck and alot of time.

Did you even look on the first page before you posted this?
Not trying to be an a$$, but there's a ton of info about this on page 1 and 2 of this forum...

you need novice artisan and a survival knife, if you have any c-12's left, bring them too. If you group with anyone, or have more than 15 skill pts spent, he will not spawn.

If Im master Reb pilot, and I switch to Imp on the ground, do I keep my Reb pilot or do I need to regrind starting with the imp pilot?

I dont think you can be one of each, like a reb on the ground and imp in the skies. Neutrals can go either way, but an Imp or a reb can be neutral and thier faction only. But if you are neutral now and want to go imp and are a reb pilot I have no idea, try it and post what happens.

Ground and space do not connect. You can be one on ground and the other in space. Going overt on ground may pose an issue, but as far as I know, there is nothing that says your ground faction has to match space if you're covert...

All I can say for certain is that Vortex Squadron, an Alliance squadron, requires you to be a ground Alliance member to gain access to the 2nd and 3rd trainers. They're located inside the Abandoned Rebel Base on Dantooine and you have to be a ground base Alliance member to enter the base proper.
The same may or may not apply to Vortex squadron storyline nemisis, the Inquisition squadron for Imperials. You'll have to ask a Imp for that information.
