I had been waiting for 25 hours and was getting impatient. Well, I checked the forums and read something about stuttle hopping. So I thought I'd try that. I took my first shuttle and poof! He showed up in less than a minute. It may be just coincidence. It may also have been exactly 24 hours of server up time if there was server downtime last night. All I know is that I tried the shuttle thing and it worked.
I know that doesn't help you much--as you said that you tried shuttling already --but others my want to give that a try if they're standing around in a city for hours and nothing happens.

The stickied guide on this forum said just to wait 12 hours - guess someone really got lucky. But I was looking for confirmation on the deal with holo-unlocking to see if that actually affected it.
Something else that just came to mind is the server resets. Since that's become more staggered, (and it's confirmed that the change wreaked havoc with base vuln timers)I wonder if it's also messed with the old man? To the game 3 days might be more like 5 now.

hope not. Though what ThunderHeart Said when the publish came alive was the wait is up to 72 hours.

Pick a planet, i picked tattooine, and log on. Wait 15 mins shuttle to annother city then wait annother 15 mins. Repeat about 2-3 times then do a full logout for 10-15 mins and repeat. I kept myself busy by looking at these cities vendors and listening to music/tv. Took me 24 hours give or take and hour to get old man then about 9 hours for the sith attack.

The only way to get the old man to come is to be patient. People think things like shuttle-hopping are tricks because he came to them after they did it, but he didn't come BECAUSE they did it.. think about it and it makes sense. Everyone waiting wants to be able to do SOMETHING to speed it up, so they try all these tricks and finally when he randomly spawns they think "Wow! That must be the trick!" It just appears to be that way because he happened to come right after they tried it.
I just got the old man an hour ago. I waited almost exactly 42 hours. I tried everything: shuttle-hopping, planet-hopping, logging out and in, even driving 15k and then shuttlehopping and getting in a battle, which someone swore got an old man spawn in an hour. But none of them worked. So I just stood my character out in the wilderness and went AFK and checked every 15 minutes. After an hour or so, I logged out, logged back in, and he was right in front of me. It obviously wasn't directly because I logged, because I tried it so many times before and it didn't work. (More on this later) I know it's hard, but you just have to be patient.
THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN CONFIRMED BY SOE OR PROVED:
+ The Old Man/Sith do not spawn inside static cities. Player cities are fine, and static outposts such as those on Dathomir are potentially OK as well.
+ Riding around on bikes is not a good idea. They can't catch up to you and you may not notice.
+ They only spawn while you are outdoors.
+ Doing things that spawn your own character seem to speed it up SLIGHTLY. This may be why people think that logging in and out or shuttlehopping works. It doesn't make him come at your will, however, because so many people have tried it and it's failed. It seems that he comes randomly, but spawning yourself might run the Old Man check sooner than normal. Again, it does not make him spawn at your will.
+ Waiting around is perfectly fine. The majority of visits happen between hours 24 and 48, and anywhere up to 72. Don't get worried.. as long as you follow the above, he will come in due time.
If you find it difficult to wait a day or two to begin your FS quest, then from what I've heard you have a big challenge in store for you once you actually begin the Jedi training...
Good luck all

The old man comes Randomly in usually 1-3 days. There has been no Known method that has proven100% to make him come sooner.
Do your regular grinding like you normally do and he will eventually show up.
All the stuff that's been stated hasn't been really proven. Even the 1-3 days is questionable as some have even waited longer.
Only thing I've heard more often then anything is that he usually don't show up in the big cities but that also may not be the case.
Be patient play normally and he will come maybe when you least expect it so pay attention to your surroundings as some have missed the visit for being AFK or preoccupied doing something else. He will however return but once again it's more waiting with time undetermined.

It's been 2 days now. Done everything I've heard in the boards, running to 0,0, relogging, shuttle hopping, nothing is working.
Now suddenly I just found something out about there being a queue for players who were grinding holos. As far as I know I never unlocked one... my first holo was Bio-engineer. Nuff said. Does this mean I'm waiting for the geezer to visit everyone who was grinding holos before I can expect anything to happen? This is getting ridiculous and if he actually absolutely is not coming I can stop wasting my time.
