haha this I'll answer . . .

yes . . you must first buy the novice Reflex box to start buying boses in survival. I think its like 50K FS reflex XP. Talk to the tall lizard guy . . . . (noldan?) and see if he'll train you in novice reflex. Make sure to have the XP first though.
