Hi. I'm working a rather weird character and I'm trying to figure out how to flip around my stats.
I'm going on the assumption that all pools are damaged equally by attacks.
I'm a Bothan.
I don't intend to use armor, and I'm ok with the disadvantage that can put me at. Note this may change if I find some that looks decent.
Fencer is my only combat class, but I enjoy my entertainer skills too. So if the HAM costs favor Action I might be pretty well set allready.

well,
ham costs are based on your secondary ham skills and weapon special attack costs, those get factored together, so check your weapon and your secondary ham skills...and that will tell you what will drain...

And the specials all follow that pattern? What about CoB? I'm looking for something a bit stronger than the weapon to read from.

Let me explain...
Anytime you use any special/stim/intimidate/cure poison....ANything COsts HAM...that mean you do damage to yourself when you do a special.
A stun baton has Heavy Mind Costs so it will cost more Mind Points to use attack specials w/ the Stun Baton (example is 1handhit3..)
Now lets say your stats are like mine...(you change these through stat migration...CTRL-C)
i have 400 health
400 con
400 strength
400 action
400 quick
400 stamina
1100 mind
800 focus
1100 willpower
If i am Unbuffed and i use any special they cost me about 100-200 Health and Action. Since i have low Strength/Stamina, it costs MORE for me to use specials to those pool. but my mind doesnt get touched.
Now when im buffed (since im a master fencer/doc i can buff myself) all those 400 are usually at about 2500. So now when i use specials they take only very minimal mind costs...and when i am musician/dancer buffed my specials take no damage from my pools.
Understand where im going?
So Its A Combination between Secondary Stats and The Weapons Special Attack Cost, and thats what HAM COSTS are.
okay?

I have clearly horribly misstated the entire point of my confusion.
I know all the basics about what HAM costs are, what the secondaries do, etc etc. I've mitigated more than I care to consider.
However, I find that I'm killing myself faster than my enemies are. CoB blows through my mind in an instant. For whatever reason, I can't get the numbers to work for me.
Now, I never rely on buffs or armor. (I'm seriously considering getting my hands on some brandy though.) All I need is some advice on where to mitigate my stats to get the best effect from my weapon. I'm using a curved sword at this point, never intend to even touch a gaffi, and might get a stun baton / vibroblade if I ever find a weaponsmith that carries them.

if ham costs are your problem, use a vibro, lowest ham costs of all fencer weapons, and so-so dmg.. don't recommend a stun baton if mind drain is an issue lol
it has very high mind cost
