I have many questions concerning defense issues in SWG, and this seems like the appropriate forum to post about it.
Primarily, my concern is with the state referred to mechanically as stun. Just what does the stun state do for passive defenses(range def and melee def) and how does it affect active defenses(block(lol), counterattack and dodge))?
wether intuition or rumor, wrong or right,id always assumed, stun halves passive defense, and has little or no effect on active defenses.
if my skill bonus roster says i have a ranged defense of 200, and the cap is 125, and i am stunned, is my ranged def now 100 or 63? assuming indeed stun halves passive defenses. We all know, versus the fine mechanical probe of the NPC mob, if we are stunned, regardless of passive or active defenses, we are hit more often.
i was present during the "stacker" nerf, and as a 190ish stacker with low active defenses, my game experience changed little, altho, suddenly i could hit the people with 250s passive and abusive active defenses, thus the sony "change in defense calculation", i remember the word calculation well, as if they inferred to us only abusive attributes were "nerfed", those that challenged the combat equations. I forget the actual quote eloquent as it was on the patch msg.
another thing tht bothers me, is the terminology of "soft" and "hard" caps, i played EQ for 4 or so years before immersing into the superior world of SWG, and if i learned anything, it was how sony thinks, and as tight lipped as they are, that is in many cases all a player has. In eq a soft cap was when 1:1 mods ceased, and after the cap, mods became 1:2 or 3 or 4 or 5 etc.... thus, if the soft cap is 100 beyond tht every 5 points was in effect another point, ie, 150=110, a hard cap was the end all be all top of the line, the limit.
It appears to me, tht in these forums, 3 sort of caps have come about, there indeed could be a soft and hard cap like in EQ, but word on the street is tht gear has a cap all its on(25).
I was always under the impression that, this 25 gear cap, was intended to mean that no single item could afford a character more than 25 bonus, for example, if i equip 3 +9 rifle speed mods(which i do alot), i get +27 speed, it does not stop at 25. ie, SEAs maxxing at 25, there are no +26 seas.
If i had to guess, id imagine these caps work alot like experimentation points(i hear 10 exp bonus gives but one exp point), and that there is no 25 gear bonus cap at all, but perhaps a soft and hard cap like in EQ, points being points being points....
food and drink?? no clue there, they may defy these caps or not, but seems reasonable to assume the mechanic is the same, and points are points, altho, food may be altogether another matter, because dodge food gives no bonus to the dodge attribute, but indeed adds a direct % to the chance to dodge, or so the food description says.
Im inclined to believe, alot of ppl with early release +25 mods from the dath sisters, are dead set on muddling these issues, in order to cloud the issue, and maintain their mystical "uberness", but then again im paranoid. Things i have personally seen, support this intuit for me.
anyhoo, i ramble and digress with ease, so heres what im asking this forum---
if my ranged defense is 125(no sea, no gear no food) and i am stunned, what does it become?
if my ranged defense is 200(no sea, no gear no food) and i am stunned, what does it become?
What, and how does the stun state do to active defenses(block(lol), counteratack and dodge)?
And just for s**ts and giggles, if a character has dodge, block and counteratack skills, how do they interact, all serious players have seen a single mob, dodge, block and counterattack in the same battle, can players do this? if so how does it work?
AND..../drumroll......just what and how does defensive acuity work? does it work at all? its a TKA perk, and they dont get dodge or block or counterattack, so wonder of wonders, the game itself assumes we are going to "stack" to make us of it, combat revamp WHEEEEEE=/
And, ugly as it seems, are SEA type bonuses just tht, points? like they are represented in the skill bonus roster? how does food affect this, its seemingly got a mechanic all its own(courtesy of chef revamp), i mean geez if my dodge stat is 100 and i eat dodge food, whats the holy calculus that reconciles it?
