I have a SWG Strategy Guide and i was looking in the weapon appendix, is it just me or is a swordsman (2h) better then a fencer(1h), cuz there r more stronger weapons, and faster too, btw...a lightsaber is 2handed!!!! So just giv me ur opinion on this.

Well since this if the fencer board, I would think most people along with myself would say its a Fencer hands down.

Well, it doesnt matter if this is a fencer board or swordsman board, please be honest on what u think, im a fencer myself, and i still have my doubts about being a fencer.

Look at it this way..

Speed v. Damage

Is it easier to swing a claymore.. or is it easier to swing a rapier (spelling..) Sure a claymore could cut someone in half.. but its slow. Sure rapiers just stab and create scratches.. but they are fast. And a stab is all it takes.

Yeah, 2hswords do a lot more damage. But you have speed agaisnt you. In most cases.. lowering the amount of exp you can get in a group.

Speed and agility win without a doubt, just look at history.. everything eventually went to Fencing techniques.. which are still around today.

While 2handers are waiting for thier attack time... we've already attacked twice .. dishing out probably 50% more damage than what a 2hander would have done on 1 attack.

Correct me if im wrong, im a 2H swordsman, and i have a sword that has a 2.7 spd. Idk how fast your weapons are but to me a 2H swordsman can be pretty fast givin the right weapon.....

By the way can someone tell me what a fencers average spd is?

I have at least novice in both. At novice level using novice skills fencer is much better. I know that most people as I did believed that 2hand was supposed to be slower/higher damage and fencing was faster/lower damage. This is simply not the case. As it is in game now with top notch weapons on both using the novice fencer/swordsman melee attacks fencer does much more damage. Another advantage is it uses between a 1/3 and 1/4 the ham. I am sure this was not meant to be this way but it is this way now. The only real advantage that swordsman have are the attacks that target the mind pool. The mind attacks kinda make up for the difference in pvp since mind is most peoples weakest link. The weapons I use are a 40-160 2.6 sec vibro blade and a 20-208 3 sec 2 hand curved sword (these are approx...dont remember exactly). The highest damage ive seen with the sword is around 1400 ( this is using the 2nd melee attack). Using the 2nd fencing I have seen 1800. Now I cant really state that all the fencing skills down the line will maintain the difference between the skills.

Fencers have a lot of skills that boost our speed. .. A lot

I don't mean to nitpick, but the historical move away fromheavier weapons is an apples and oranges issue, not an issue of speed vs. damage.

Fencing was not used in warfare, itwas a form of street brawling. Broadswords and greatswords were war weapons, used to cut through leather or chain armor and stop horses, or insome cases withgreatswords, cutting the heads off pikes (a favorite Landsknecht technique).

The reason swords went out of style was simply because with the advent of heavy plate armor,swords started to become obsolete. With the increasingly widespread use of guns in warfare, swords became secondary (a backup weapon). Eventually their only primary use was for a horseman, as it waseffective to pull out a saberoncethe cavalryman fireed his single shot gun. With the invention of repeating carbines and revolvers, swords become ceremonial.

Throughout all this, fencing weapons such as rapiers and epees were still enjoying widespread use as duelling weapons. Unarmored opponents would face one another in a one-on-one situation, where speed and finesse were definitely desireable to heavy, slow weapons. This was never done on the battlefield, however.
