Thread: Help needed! I don't seem to understand the armor system

As I've leveled, I've made it to master one handed, I finally have enough money to buy armor, only it seems I die more with the heavier armor then I do with the lighter stuff. it all seems backwards to me. Before it was always my health or action that would reach zero first. With my Chitin armor my mind sinks like a stone in battle. I finally figured out it's because my helmet has taken 181 points off my focus. I'm Hypothisizing that what's happening is that with his hit they use focus (isn't that the one that related to how much mind is removed each time you do something or something is done to you that effects mind) and I take a big hit to my mind.

I figure from all the posts I've read that it's something I've done wrong with my characer's attributes, or there is a secret I just don't know. Right now it's frustrating as a fighter type to have my mind be the deciding factor in all my fights. I'm supposed to be big, fast, and stupid. Aren't I? I thought better armor was supposed to help not hurt me in a fight.

Any help is appreciated on how you deal with the stat loss that comes with wearing armor.

PS

I also know a big part of my problem is that my character is bugged and each secondary attribute is 100+ lower then it should be even without armor on.

I agree, lose the armor. There are too many cost that hurt us. We are fencers, we are about style and fiensse. Find a good tailor and get some nice threads

Im not trying to sound like a know-it-all or an anus or anything but you guys don't know what youre talking about.

To reply to the original poster:

If you don't examine the piece of armor you do not know how quality its is. Use kinetic resist if you want to fight creatures, energy if your PVP or fighting NPCs. My Chitin armor absorbs about 40% of the blows I take. I don't care how much it costs, IT WORKS by absorbing damage.

You will not find good armor on the bazaar because good armor is expensive because IT WORKS. Find a good armorsmith, if you play on Bloodfin, mail gorgomite, he has the best I know of. Bone armor is worthless, and yet most of the people I see with armor are wearing it. Why? Iguess people don't understand how it works.

Yes, it makes your HAM regen slower... but HOTKEY the pieces to a toolbar, take it off after a fight, and you get around that problem easy.

About encumberance... this is the main drawback. Basically, buy armor with low encumberance. It will increase the cost of special attacks, so only use them when necessary, but if you find a good armorsmith this wont be a problem.

You may not look unique with armor on, but you will be protected in battle.

Armor probably is worth it...I'd only use it in pvp though because of their fast decay rate.

Armor level is extremely important for being able to damage. Clothes have an armor level of Zero and some weapons have a bonus vs armor levels of Zero. All player made armor has an armor level of one, there are weapons that negate this armor level though. Creatures have an armor level of one and two (the high end creatures have two. A few creatures have an armor level of three (the highest)...I'm not sure if you can tame any of those though, at-sts have an armor level of three. Armor level always lower the amount of armor damage taken...yes even if you have bone armor and are getting hit by kinetic attack, unless you are being hit by a weapon that negates that armor level. I have a pet gurreck his armor level is 2 and he has a kinetic bonus (melee) of 35%. I'll be taking of 200-300 from melee attacks (with only clothes on), he'll be taking 40-60 dmg from the same enemy. High end armor sucks in my opinion (padded, composite)....it still only has an armor level of 1. It's protection bonuses (kinetic, energy) may be 15-20% higher but it comes with a 100s of points more ham cost. Go for a mid-level suit of armor made by a master armorsmith...get the ham costs sliced by a good slicer. If you know you're going against people who have weapons that negate an armor level...it will be prettymuch useless exceptfor it's protection bonuses, but vs most players and creatures, it will help a lot. Remember though, if you're wearing armor but not a helmet and someone hits you in the head, you will get no armor protection. If you know you're going against a rifleman (head shots), wear a helmet: a pistoleer (body shots), wear a chestplate: a carbineer (leg shots), wear some leggings. The helmet is probably the most important piece (and least worn)because mind damage can't be healed and the helmet is the only thing that can protect your head, especially in PvP with so many mind damage fiends out there.

rundown

Armor level= lowers all dmg taken significantly, unless the weapon hitting you (or maybe some creatures) can negate armor. Laser Carbines, for one, have this bonus. I think vibroblades do too.

Kinetic bonuses= Protects from melee dmg. If the number is 30%, it will absord 30% of melee dmg (taken in that area) in addition to the armor levels reduction.

Energy= Guns like Carbines, Rifles and pistols deal this type of dmg. Same deal as kinetic and protection other bonuses.

Blast= I'm pretty sure this is grenades and other explosives.

The others are pretty straightforward I think.

Ham cost: This number does notlower you're health, action, or mind pools. It lowers you're secondary stats. If a helmet has a mind cost of 100, it will lowera combination of yourfocus and willpower. Try to always have you're armor at low ham costs or else you'll kill yourself with you're own special moves and havenext to noregen...slicing ham costs on armor will usually reduce it by 25%+from agood slicer.

Tip: Take off your armor when you're trying to regen, especially the helmet if you're low on mind.

gah, my mind isn't working well in this heat. It should read that armor is extremely important for being able to *absorb damage.

you could do what I do and use personal shield generators, they absorb blaster shots quite well but I warn you, you have to take it off before it reaches 0 (the condition) and it goes down quite fast so have lots of clothing repair kits around. I dont use armor because Im waiting for the prices to go down, not that I dont have the money its just I dont feel like wasting 120k on a set that will probably get a lot cheaper once the **edit** resources get shifted.

Question: I was told that Ubese armor is the best thing for a melee fighter. Afore I sink 100K or more into a set, can I get some feedback on this particular kind of armor, so far as being used by an aspiriing fencer? Thanks!

I'm a fencer, and I noticed that I lose 40% less HAM points wearing my armor agaisnt tuskens (all i've been fighting so far) than without it.

I use ubese armor, and a Raider will take 1/3 of one of my HAMS without wearing armor.

I'm very happy with my armor.

Armor is for pussies. Get yourself some bleed clothes and a personal shield generator, if you want some good protection. Me..I run around naked.

100K for a set for Ubese armor? I paid 30K for a full set, and it is good quality. I like it so far.
