Looking for the best ranged compliment to use with Rifle.

Sword seems to drain action/mind more than body. Im Zabrak so it seems to work out nicely.

Im trying to figure out which ranged skill is going to be the best.

Rifle uses mind for ham drain, but seems to attack Mind pool. So id have good regen/ham loss, but it wouldnt match up with the body damage sword does

Carbine seems to do action damage. Im not sure which stat is used for special though (ham drain) or if the "standard attack" is much faster than rifle.

Pistol is by far the fastest, with health attacking skills like Body Shot 1&2.

It seems like pistol would be the best choice, simply for the speed and health damage. However, it seems redundant to take pistol with a melee weapon being that pistol is also very good in melee combat.

What exactly is special about rifle and carbine over pistol?

Well, since Fencers mainly damage the health pool i'd opt to go with Pistol... I think you'd be far more helpful if you focused on one pool (Even if the rifleman is doing mind damage) instead of spreading it out. Plus, when I picture the swashbuckling fencer type I tend to think sabre and pistol would fit the image well.

It would seem like anything that can stop a players movement (ie: knockdown) would be a good compliment to any brawler. Keep your enemy from kiting you around.

I think that narrows it down to Carbineer, or Smuggler/pistol right?

Yeah, I think I'll try that... Although it'skind of a dirty way tofight, it would be a goodcombo to use a carbine for a legshot so you can switch to your sword and chase down your prey easier. Carbines have high HAM costs, do they not? Maybe I'd stick to a light carbine, as melee fencers can't afford to enter tough fights with half their pools gone already.

I use Pistol with my fencer, should be Pistoleer today and I'm working on the fencing tree right now. I usually group with a couple carbiners so knockdown and getting close isn't a problem. I like the Pistol/Fencer combo, like stated before they both attack the health pool.

That sounds like fun, lowblow being especially enticing.

I think it depends on what you want ranged for.

I just use it for pulling from situations that I'd prefer not to walk into (eg a red beastie sitting on my yellow spawn site)and to have something to do when in a ranged dominated group. I solo for the most part so my CDEF carb is getting dusty, but each bit of damage done with a ranged takes away from exp for the blade. Will eventually use a Bowcaster just for the hell of it.

I do not pvp now and may never - if I did Pistol would be my choice for the reasons outlined above.

I wanted to sort of roleplay my character as a professional duelist of sorts, so I planned on doing pistoleer ( ten paces... ) and fencer ( the original duelers? ) with smuggler because it just fit well with trash talking and whatnot.

I haven't touched fencer yet ( I'm about to -- wanted to master pistoleer first ), but I'm having a blast with the character so far.

I'm hoping that I enjoy fencer as much as I do the rest of the character. I only hope that there were true fencer weapons ( epee, foil, rapier, etc ).

I chose to be more of a Samurai type template. Not that I'm thinking I am a samurai, but as a Samurai had his sword and was often very very good with a bow or even a rifle later in their history, I chose rifle. It works out well for me, since I have a heavily modified rifle that can take down most things white to me in two shots, and my sword for the close work.

But that's just me.

Fencer + Carbine

Carbineers have an attack that can knock a/multiple target(s) down (similar to a BH's underhand shot). If you've ever been kited in PVP, you'd be wishing you had a Carbine right then.

I still strongly suggest Smuggler

Neutron Pixie ( the bests smuggler spice ) adds about +1000 to health ( don't remember other bonuses for about 15 minutes.

Low blow shot before engaging enemy in melee.

Feign Death can save your Hide too

I went with rifle. They may be a bit slower in speed compared to a pistol but if you want speed on a rifle go with a Spraystick, then switch to the laser rifle. I'm going in a little different direction than most and i hope it works out.
