getting xp in ranged vs melee is. I don't expect to be 'equal' to ranged; we each have our strengths/weaknesses. But this is ludicrous.

I am a Novice Fencer, Swordsman, and Carbineer, with each profession at the same exact level. On two nights running, I've joined a group of similarly leveled individuals, to hunt voritors on Dantooine. I have noticed consistently that the xp with the two Brawler professions is MUCH less than with the carbine. And the damage/HAM cost/ risk of being poisoned is incomparable with that of ranged. So, in other words, I sustain HUGE amounts of damage, get poisoned, use TONS more HAM, all to GET LESS XP!

What theheck is up with this?

If I use a carbine to take down a voritor- I get anywhere from 1500-2000 xp. A two - handed sword yields about 800-1000 xp. A one handed sword: 500 xp!!!!!! PLUS the damage I do as a melee isn't THAT much more than I can do with a special move with my carbine... at much less HAM cost.

There *is* some downtime with melee, as you back off to get healed, that you don't have with the carbine. But it's minimal with the awesome combat medic we have. We as melee NEED to have BETTER defense against MOBs. We NEED to have LOWER HAM costs- or at LEAST inflict DAMAGE that is in PROPORTION to that HAM cost!!!!

Devs- This isn't a 'whine'. I'm not doing to 'quit' unless you fix this. I LOVE this game AND my character. But please please please

WE NEED MELEE LOVE!

I'm a novice fencer. There are so many factors that go into play. Like your weapon speed and damage.

We go to dathomir to take on baz nitches. But the same thing happened to me as too what your experiencing. I was on Expert pistol, but had novice fencer and inte footwork. I was using a dl44 for a long time, not getting jack. 200-500 xp in a group of 5 (with one CM). One of my guild members gave me a nice dh17 pistol. Wow what a difference. 1.7 speed 165 dam max. Then I was getting 1000-1800 xp.

But your right, the HAM cost were not as high as my fencer skills. But it came down to the weapon. I had a Ryyk blade. But i was getting 500-2200 xp off of one. But it depended on how many people were shooting at the one I was attacking. But the recovery time sucks (but like you, we had a good combat medic as well). But it was my mind that ate me up.

I can't take a baz one on one, i would getbeat up. This is what we did, a CH pet would tank and I would help that pet using my sword using bleed, and bodyhit2 and using my speed in between specials to recover, while the rest of the group would attack another baz. It worked out great. Whenever I did this i was getting between 1800 and 2200. Plust the CH would get xp as well.

But when things got hairy, i switched to my pistol and use suppression fire. I love suppression fire, works great. Slows them down just enough to let the group figure what needs to be done next. I usually go with players that are high up ranged skills, so are naturally going to get more XP for doing more damage. But if you work as a team, everyone can benefit from the hunt.

Quitdee,

I realize the weapon quality is a factor- but the stats on my Rykk are pretty competitive. Part of the problem is, weaponsmiths on my server spend much more time perfecting ranged weapons (after all, it is more lucrative for them), and the melee weapons just aren't as good.

Still.... the disparity between ranged/melee is out of proportion, imo. I hope they play around with HAM costs, melee defense capabilities, and melee damage... I'm confident they will address this, but we need to keep at it!

This has been a peeve of mine for a while. When I was working on 1Hand Specailist (at level III 1h), I was huntin Ikopi and Nightspiders (blue con) on Naboo. I could easily take on a few (also with scout so I had the Melee Defense De-buffs) before I had to rest and heal.

With Expert Pistol, (level III pistol), I can easily solo Kaduu (white/yellow con), without any traps. And rest less often then I did when I was the same level with 1H Melee fighting blue cons.

Factors that go into it :

  • HAM costs, I can spam Bodyshot2 till the cows come home and barely see a dent in my action bar. With a Vibrobade, 1HmeleeHit1 will still take points out of all my bars.

  • Free Attacks. With my pistol, I can expect to get 4 to 6 attacks before the creature even closes on me. At that point, its Heatlh is so low that I don't need to swtich to melee. With a Melee weapon, you are being hit right after your first strike.

  • Pets are better Tanks. Even pets for non-CH ers have 3k HAMs. With some Good doctor buffs, I can get up to 2500 Healt and Action, but my mind will still be less then 1000. We could wear armor, but then we can not specail. Melee types just can not hunt "Big Game" (like Kimos on Lok) since they hit for 1k a swipe.

This is not a Fencer only issue. It is with all Melee. I too would like to see "equality" between Ranged and Melee, in that both should have their strenght and weaknesses. Right now, it is harder to get Melee type XP compared to Ranged, and there are few times when Melee is "better" then Ranged.

Because this space out here in Fencer land is so desolate, no one can hear your cries as those of us here have tried since the beginning to get some help for Fencer. Devs''' We need help...

No one ever looks in this forum... Fencer is a dead forum... sad but true. It's up to us to make it the best place before the profession dies for good.

Ryyk's arent bad...but I stick to my curved swords in a group since mine are pretty fast and use a different HAM pool than the Ryyks (Ryyks seem to be more health centric in the HAM and the Curved swords are more Action).

At any rate, I know what you're talking about - I've done quite a few good Baz nitch runs in decent sized groups and I found the best way for me to max out my xp is to use a faster blade in combination with beserk...basically wait for someone or something to grab all the aggro (pets and wookies are great for this) and then pull out the faster weapon and go Zerk mode - like I said I use my curved swords, so I haven't tried using a vibroblade, but I'd easily grab 1500-2500xp per kill if I got to the mob early enough to get a lot of hits in (speed=lot of hits too btw).
