Thread: Fencer Counters to Riflemen?

I'm a dedicated fencer, have been since launch, but that doesn't mean I'm not going to have some fun with my respec. What I've been doing the last few weeks is testing out different melee and ranged templates, getting feelings for them, and then learning thier weaknesses and flaws so I know where to hit them as a fencer. Only yesterday though was I sort of getting into Combat Medic, a very viable class, did I discover one of the hardest templates, if not the hardest, non-jedi template to fight in the game. Previously, my toughest competition and class was the TKM/Combat Medic, it can deal immense ammounts of damage and take very little, but if you're careful enough you can heal through the hurt and wait for thier mind to run out (considering they're not buffed out the wazoo) and take them down in a fell swoop. Anyways, I respecced to Mrifles/MCombat Medic/Doctor xxx4. Right off the bat it was amazing, I was destroying all ranged opponents very quickly, even ones with healing classes, the debuffs work wonders. When I got into melee though it got a little harder. My defense was severely lower than it was as a meleer, but I only took enough damage to heal slightly more often, and at first I was occupied with just healing myself over and over again. Then I found 'firearm strike' and it let me recoup a little bit, but I was still losing duels to TKMs and Swordsmen in the long run.


I was looking through my skills and I found 'startle shot'. Testing it out, I found that it delaysa player for about 5 seconds, but its cool down is only that, if not less. So spamming it, I could potentially keep a player stunned and unable to attack, move, or heal, an entire duel. So, in a fight against a TKM / MDoc, I KDed him with 'firearm strike' after applying every poison and DoT I had, and then started spamming startle shot, I kept him on the ground for so long that when I eventually did miss, by the time he stood up, we was incapped again.


So, I respecced back to Fencer last night, found a Mrifles/Mcombat Medic/Doctor 4xxx (a little different, HUGE heals instead of buffs), and began dueling him. I tried gimping his actions, putting on bleeds, beating the crap out of him, but eventually, between paralyze, firearm strike, and startle shot, he kept me unable to heal, attack, or even breathe, for entire duels.


What I'm asking, is if any fencer knows a way of countering this, or taking down this template some how, some way.

Fencer has many ways of countering ranged ppl, snare and a blind for good measure. also the movement speed difference is great against a rifeman and we can close quickly, If got a bit of TKM knockdowns are good.

With regards to the startle shot spammage, yer ive had that, but not a lot you can do. Ive only ever noticed ppl doing it in duels and not in actual pvp.

parwin cake for the win.


Startle shot can be annoying but it's not the be end and end all if you are smart. Have stim Ds and ruby with you at all times. You can use Stims and ruby in a one to one ratio and heal anytime you want. This includes when KDed, paralysised, dazed etc.


Now make sure you are up close to them all time, spam KD and when they go down (they'll miss a shot or just run out of action) you'll have you're opening and rifleman for me usualy go down in three or 4 hits.


CM stuff takes up insane amount of mind so if they keep applying they're mind will die and so will they.
