Thread: Cross Profession Skill Mods...
I think I read previously that someone tried combining a complimentary profession with Fencer, but found that the skill mods were only in effect when they had the appropriate weapon equipped. For instance, I can pick up some additional defense against knockdown (+15) if I pick up carbine counterinsurgency.
Does anyone know for sure if this bonus would only be applied while I have my carbine equipped? Or will it be in effect when I have my sword equipped as well?

Hello Max!
Thanks for the reply. Ack- I posted this in the game guide forum, and was told they didn't. Can you tell me how you know? I am predicating my next skill block choice in carbineer on the answer to this question.

Something like 1h toughness won't work when you have something other than a 1h equipped.
Heya Cephas,
So, what you're saying is that defense against knockdown (gained in carbineer) would work for both professions... I hope? : )

Some mods stack, others are weapon-dependant. Basically, if a weapon category name is contained in the name of the skill mod that skill mod will only be in effect while that weapon is equipped.
Example, in Fencer you get skill mod: Melee Defense, and skill mod: One-Hand Melee Toughness.
Melee Defense from Fencer applies all the time, regardless of the weapon equipped, and stacks with the Melee Defense gained from any other profession.
One-Hand Melee Toughness only applies while you have a One-Hand Melee Weapon equipped.

I am 100% sure that they are not working... either that, or they are working and are 100% useless. Either way, my desperate cry to fix thisproblem andfor them to actuallygiveus a defence before they decided to put in a timer has gone unheard, because the timer is in place in the test center as I write this. I tend to compare this to a bicycle that has a bumtire... instead of fixing the tire and letting me use my bike, they decide to rip off the back wheel and say here, ride this instead. If defence actually worked and having plus 40 knockdown defence actual mean that I don't always get knocked down, why would we need a timer??

that is GREAT GREAT news, I guess I'll be the third to say I'm wrong then
. All this time I thought the game was wrong, and it's really the fact that I have such low skill, oh well
. But now I have a few desperate requets. Can you test out how well you do against smuggler's or BH's using their ranged knockdown moves, such as suppression fire and low blow....see if your still avoiding them at a high rate, and maybe you could just note what level your defence vs. knockdown and defence vs. position change is at. Maybe even your combat equilibrium, because I'm not sure what the difference is between defence vs. position change and combat equilibrium is anyways. Thank you for this info, I better work on TK.

Heya Chee,
Hmmmm.. maybe it's my imagination, but I seem to get 'forced to kneeling' a LOT less then when I was a lower level. For instance, when fighting fanned rawls, at a lower level I was knocked down several times during a fight- now it happens only once in awhile.
I could understand why anyone shouldn't be invulnerable to KD 100% of the time- even when fighting a MOB/player of a lower level they *should* get lucky every now and then. Even the most adept fighter makes mistakes!
