i had good luck with a really nice vibroblade. however a good curved does more damage and with a decent speed slice, they're killer unless you're using a lot of specials. i have a curved that's 65-175 1.9 speed. ham is whatever's average for a curved.

what server are you on? i have lots of spares, and would definitely let you have two or three to check them out.

I've grown quite attached to the Dreaded Gaffi, although it isn't a sword.

but at novice, the gaffi is so slow. i think a curved would output more damage. but i'm not sure on that.

Ahhh, yes..How could I have forgotten how slow the gaffi was at novice?! That said, the vibroblade is probably the best weapon of choice until you get your Onehand weapon speed up...THEN the gaffi is the way to go

Ohh, uhhh..vibroblade because it's relatively fast and the HAM cost doesn't beat you up that badly. Curved swords maul my HAM bars...

yeah, but i have a curved sword with a damage slice that does up to 242 base max damage. which means if i'm not using specials, i use this, since it's still faster for me than my gaffi. with big creatures, i'll use the gaffi with a power up, making it max out at 302, then special away and use some stim b's with 434 healing.

i'm 0-3-1-1, so i'm not far from novice myself. with one grand wrix, i can solo six 10k ham storm troopers. i can't wait to get master. body hit 3 after a knockdown with a rifle user is going to be unbearably sweet. and it'll be nice to not have to worry about getting melee experience.

i've never really thought fencers were underpowered. i've outlasted bounty hunters in fights with creatures, and when my friend and i duel, as soon as i catch up with him, it's over.

life is sweet when you're a candy-ass fencer.

I think you misspelled "if I catch him". There is no reason why you should be able to catch him right now, unless he screws up.

if i time my burst run just right, i can. i watch for him to burst run, then i run the opposite way. i'll get inside something, and wait for his burst run to expire, then i storm out, catch him, and if he can't knock me down before i get there, i have him. with a stick command, i'll be even more effective.

and yeah, he wins more often than i do. it's a lot easier to avoid someone than it is to catch them.

Well, I've had the most luck with a speed sliced curved sword (70-168 dam, 1.6 speed). At Novice or first-tier fencer this takes you right to the speed cap (1.04 Novice, 0.96 Footwork 1). I'd imagine the comparative advantage over the vibro and gaffi will take a big step down with Footwork 2.

The gaffi is just too ponderously slow at these levels. The vibroblade has slightly (about 12%) better damage numbers once you factor in the 25%, but a comparably speed-sliced VB is still about 33% slower than the speed-sliced curved. Of course, against an armored opponent, the vibroblade is a big step up. Stun baton also works well against most armor and bypasses that nasty kinetic resist many critters have.

At 0/1/0/0 and a few Stim-As (too cheap for Bs) I've been able to solo (no spice/food, no buff, no pets) regular squills with the curved sword without too much trouble. Bocatts and mountain squills require a little more planning, the stun batonand some luck with the Intimidate rolls.

Hope this helps!

I use a curved sword that's been sliced to I believe 85-210 at a speed of 2.3. I'll admit I had did a little stat migration to make sure I wasn't wearing myself out during a fight, but a good powerup can alleviate some of that stress too (lucky for me I'm also a master artisan, so I can make some pretty decent powerups).

Checking your spelling (and punctuation, too) will ensure that you're making sense to more than two people.
