Thread: Fencer or Swordsman?, ur comments pls

Hi all


Ive been a tkm fora long time, im bored of it


i cant decide between fencer and swordsman, i know swordsman get a real good mind bleed, but thats all i know about em, as for fencer - i know its great defenses. but still cant decide, along with them i will get master brawler.


Im looking for a PvP proffesion out of these 2


pls help - ur comments pls?

I play both, and I prefer fencer...
I'm finally going for a pvp melee template
Blademaster (soon yay)/ TKM/ Master Brawler/ Swordsman Mind Bleeds/ Some scout

Expect to see a new overt reb in eclipse server


fencer is classy, powerfull (less than other melee tho), and has awesome defenses, but crappy weapons

I play both and I prefer Swordsman.

Sorry, it's true. =-)

I do really like fencer as well of course.

It's not nearly so simple, but basically Swordsman will be much better offense and Fencer will be much better defense.

Swordsmen get some really great, high damage weapons with high armor piercing. They have "ok" defense. Fencers get some much lower damage weapons with low armor piercing. They also get a stun baton which can be very nice against foes weak to that. Also they get some great defensive abilities.

I think you can't go wrong either way, although personally I find myself using swordsman a lot more than fencer.

I play both also and i have to say it depends on the user. A fencer ismuch more defensive minded with blinds , dizzy bleeds scatters leading it arsenal. Also its innate defense make them harder to hit. Ideally a smart fencer doesnt run up to much that he cant do damage too thanks to scatter hits and stunbaton. Also fencer has some great accuracy. One on one fencer going to as hard to beat as anyone. Swordsmen is about offense pure and simple. They deal pain quickly and heavily. Im still shocked by some of
hits i have done. Problem i have as a swordsmen is that in pvpis that other than their mind bleed they dont have much in the way of a trump card. Their accuracy not great so againist a defensive pc they either get a lucky hit that ends the match or they get wasted. In bigger settings this tends to even out and they become a real threat. Also they arethe most effcient way to take out turrets if you can give them covering fire. Over all they very useful but one on one isnt their game of choice.

I'm interested in this question as well. Right now I'm a Master Brawler building both one and two handed xp until I decide whether to go Fencer or Swordsman.

The two-handed swords are fun with their high ap and damage but I like the idea of a good defense when I get higher up Fencer. I'm looking for more of a PvE creature hunting build as I'm also a Master Ranger.

A swordsmen with armor on is way better than a fencer. But armor is a must because your gonna get hit often.

I've mastered both and i prefer fencer. Here's my opion;


Fencer is just much cooler, more tactical, and just beautiful to watch in action. You will take less damage only becuase you won't be hit as often as a swordsman. Your armor will take less punishment (adv ubese here) and you will have less wounds and battle fatigue than if you go master swordsman. The bleeds aren't as powerful, but you will hit way faster than a swordsman (i speak without skill attackments). And i mean way faster. I have to hit the specials 2 times just to see the animations (which i love, they look much more powerful than the swordsman animations). You will hit more often as well. As a swordsman i had trouble connecting with the power hammer sometimes. Most times in pvp, so i just used the 2h curved sword. Don't get me wrong, mind bleeds are great for pve not just becuase it hits the mind, but becuase they can tick for around 4k (had a 750 damage ph with pup). 2 4k bleeds and whatever it is will die fast. Now against light armor and no armor targets you kill just as fast as a fencer, but with med-heavy armor targets, you kill faster as a swordsman.


In pvp, swordsman can one shot people with low minds. If you can hit with the power hammer. Against tka's though you will die fast. And with no positive way to induce dizzy, pvp is just a kite fest. Now hit3 and ae3 of swordsman has a chance to dizzy. But you can't rely on it for pvp. As for fencer in pvp. I can take tkas easier. And with the stun baton, comp armor is a joke (general comp... with no stun layer). My only real concern is since i swing soooo fast, my mind goes. So you either need muon, mind buffs, or food.


Now in all honesty, i was working toward my jedi slot. I've mastered 13 professions with no luck and then i mastered fencer. Now, i'm not going to go after my jedi slot. I like fencer soooo much it's worth more than a fscs. Atleast to me. Took me 13 profs to find the one i like, and it's fencer. If you'd like to see the power of a fencer, come to shadowfire. Send me a /tell (game name is Linse) and i'll be MORE than happy to show you. I'll take you to the tusken fort, or maybe nightsister hunting. Ever see a fencer tank 12 pikets??? fun to watch.

I picked up Fencer to compliment TKA and have not regretted it one bit! It's a lot of fun, the high defenses are awesome in PvE (supplemented by food, armor, powerboost and emergency spices for tough spots). And the spin-spin-spin flourish moves of the animations are awesome. The damage is mid-ranged, but you hit faster, and don't get hit as often. The debuffs available (dizzy and blind) work well against NPCs and PCs alike.


The only downside, as with TKA, is the lack of alternative damage types. With TKA it's intentionally omitted because of other factors, but Fencers could possibly use a weapon that delivers another kind of damage.


Maybe an ice-blade to do cold damage..something unique in the brawler areas..

I am having the same problem , am currently a Master Doc/ Brawler and was working my way up the pikeman tree . But after reading TH's post I know that Pikeman will never be as good as I want it


Am now looking for another melee profession to complement my Doc.


When I am killed it is mostly because I run out of mind so I thought that swords would be a nice addition because imo more people should have my problem. Mind bleeds hurt alot.


But as a wookie ( no armor) I like the idea of dodging and getting hit less.


Would is the main factor used in swords and fencing specials ? Mind for fencing ?


Any suggestions or is it like some above poster mentioned : You cannot go wrong whatever I pic ?


Or doesn't that aply for a wookie ?

i think fencer or tka would be a good prof for a wookie. Since you get no armor you either need to beable to absorb the damage when hit (tka) or not get hit as much (fencer). About mind bleeds... it takes 15 seconds till the first tick of a bleed. More than likely you will be dead before a tick comes. And since bleeds don't incap anymore they are as useful as poison. Accually they would be less useful than poison, since poison has a greater range than a mind bleed from swordsman.



When i pvped with swordsman i didn't bother with bleeds. Fights almost never last that long and since i have to get in range (10m with no lag) i'm usually being kited to death. If the enemy isn't running he's most likely a tka and will kill me before a tick of my bleed.


For pve, doesn't matter where you bleed. As long as you bleed the target. But if you hunt with people... the majority will be attacking the health pool. So a mind bleed won't help as much/ And with the bleed stacking nerf coming, you will want to stack your bleeds with the rest of the flamethrowers/pistol users to insure a quicker kill. That of go swordsman and pair up with rifleman/swordsman.


And mind cost is a factor in everything. Any prof should worry bout mind cost since the other stats are buffable more easily. But with food/spice (mostly food, i hate downers) mind cost can be dropped to nearly nothing.

To put it plain and simply, i have been a master swordsman (holocron told me to), and all i can say is that if you want to just kill stuff fast, go swordsman, im paired up with master doctor, so i can spam my specials to my hearts content. The accuracy(just look at a powerhammer and how much accuracy at master)and the defenses suck. But the bleeds are the best! Also you NEED master brawler if you pvp, youll get the 2hlunge2 and warcry2. Doing 5k+ mind damage and 3k+ in mind bleeds to MOBs is sweet.


Im switching back to fencer because i want to pvp sometimes, since i cant get master brawler seeing how im a master doctor, which i refuse to drop. Ive been a doctor for a long time, and i love it.

Of both those professions, master fencer has a better chance agianst range opponents in pvp. A swordsman may dish out alot of damage but can u catchup to a master rifleman before you are laying on your back. WhenI was master fencer, I was able to take out master riflemans without buffs or CoB. Thats how good fencers defenses are.
