Thread: Fencer or Swordsman?, ur comments pls
I'm finally going for a pvp melee template
Blademaster (soon yay)/ TKM/ Master Brawler/ Swordsman Mind Bleeds/ Some scout
Expect to see a new overt reb in eclipse server
fencer is classy, powerfull (less than other melee tho), and has awesome defenses, but crappy weapons

I do really like fencer as well of course.
It's not nearly so simple, but basically Swordsman will be much better offense and Fencer will be much better defense.
Swordsmen get some really great, high damage weapons with high armor piercing. They have "ok" defense. Fencers get some much lower damage weapons with low armor piercing. They also get a stun baton which can be very nice against foes weak to that. Also they get some great defensive abilities.
I think you can't go wrong either way, although personally I find myself using swordsman a lot more than fencer.
The two-handed swords are fun with their high ap and damage but I like the idea of a good defense when I get higher up Fencer. I'm looking for more of a PvE creature hunting build as I'm also a Master Ranger.

I am having the same problem , am currently a Master Doc/ Brawler and was working my way up the pikeman tree . But after reading TH's post I know that Pikeman will never be as good as I want it![]()
Am now looking for another melee profession to complement my Doc.
When I am killed it is mostly because I run out of mind so I thought that swords would be a nice addition because imo more people should have my problem. Mind bleeds hurt alot.
But as a wookie ( no armor) I like the idea of dodging and getting hit less.
Would is the main factor used in swords and fencing specials ? Mind for fencing ?
Any suggestions or is it like some above poster mentioned : You cannot go wrong whatever I pic ?
Or doesn't that aply for a wookie ?
i think fencer or tka would be a good prof for a wookie. Since you get no armor you either need to beable to absorb the damage when hit (tka) or not get hit as much (fencer). About mind bleeds... it takes 15 seconds till the first tick of a bleed. More than likely you will be dead before a tick comes. And since bleeds don't incap anymore they are as useful as poison. Accually they would be less useful than poison, since poison has a greater range than a mind bleed from swordsman.
When i pvped with swordsman i didn't bother with bleeds. Fights almost never last that long and since i have to get in range (10m with no lag) i'm usually being kited to death. If the enemy isn't running he's most likely a tka and will kill me before a tick of my bleed.
For pve, doesn't matter where you bleed. As long as you bleed the target. But if you hunt with people... the majority will be attacking the health pool. So a mind bleed won't help as much/ And with the bleed stacking nerf coming, you will want to stack your bleeds with the rest of the flamethrowers/pistol users to insure a quicker kill. That of go swordsman and pair up with rifleman/swordsman.
And mind cost is a factor in everything. Any prof should worry bout mind cost since the other stats are buffable more easily. But with food/spice (mostly food, i hate downers) mind cost can be dropped to nearly nothing.
