I've had it with pistoleer. (que flushing sound as DX2 pistol goes down the toilet).

I hit novide fencer and I'm having a blast. I am a master surgeon: 2,4,4,4, so I can do pretty decent buffs. I bought some cheaper brandy (Bartok?) and some good kinetic resistence (76%) armour.

I have a decent curved sword, a decent baton and a monster (on my server anyway) sliced Gaderiffi stick.

I want to go pound some tuskens but I hear Dantooine is the way to go. And I'm planning on using my stun baton until I hit level 4 footwork, then I'll pull out the rusty pipe (Gad Stick) and wack my way to master.

Sound good?

I just hope when it comes to PvP I don't regret this... although compared to pistoleer this is so much funner.

Dantooine probably has the best mobs for melee leveling, on the other hand, Dathomir has the best selection of "wild lairs." Those will get you better xp than mission lairs. For example, a "Brackaset Family Lair" would have been spawned by a mission terminal, and would only contain maybe 8-12 creatures. A wild lair has a generic name like "Brambles," "Pile of Rocks," etc. and can contain 30 or more creatures.

When I'm leveling I will pick two terminal missions to keep cash coming in, but take out any wild lairs that I find. Wild lairs are pretty uncommon on Dantooine, on Dathomir you'll run into more wild lairs than you could ever need.

I'd pick up a vibroblade, I'm not sure if the armor piercing is fixed or not, but the HAM costs and damasge are better than the stun baton. (Also, you can't damage a lair at all with a stun baton.)

I was on Dath last night. We took... missions for large dinosaur type animals (can't remember the name) and at one time we were near a Rancor spawn.

The 5 of us ended up fighting this one mission for about an hour. A personal record for me. In the process that included 3 rancors and I lost count of the other animals. During that mission, 2 nightsisters attacked us!

That's way over my head alone... way over my head. lol

So I can buff, and I have some cheap brandy so me and my TKA novice friend were going to try fighting were there's the odd hint of sunlight.

So you think the vibroblade? Interesting. I had been using my stun baton vs armoured types, and my curved sword with a decent damage slice for creature fighting. (I notice most have a form of stun and some (minor) kinetic resistance).

Why do you say the vibro? I ask because the specials on my sword don't bug me. I take brandy and unless I'm overwhelmed I can que up about... 5-6 specials in a row, take a few second breather, repeat. And it doesn't hurt me too much. So is it just the 'special' attack reason for using a vibro? I used mine once, but it was slower, and far less damaging than my curved sword so I leave it at home most nights. ... just curious what your thoughts are on this.

Yeah, I believe you were fighting Makloks, those tend to stampede.

Well, the stun baton is great against armored opponents, but only if their armor shows stun as a vulnerability. If the opponent has medium armor, but is vulnerable to stun, then the stun baton is the way to go-- it ignores all armor. If the opponent is even 5% resistant to stun, you lose the advantage.

Vibroblades are supposed to have light armor piercing. Right now, I've heard reports that the armor piercing is not working correctly, which makes sense, the numbers don't seem as high as they should be.

However, I like the low HAM costs. As you ascend the Fencer tree, you'll see the bigger specials cost a lot, so it hurts a lot less using a v-blade with 10-21-10 HAM costs than a stun baton, curved or gaderiffi.

I plugged my gaffi, stun baton, and vibro into this thing:

http://swgplanner.tyger.org/weaponcalc/

What I found was, with MY weapons specifically, the gaffi was best on AR0 with under 55% kinetic resist or so. Higher than 55, and the stun baton took it.

On armoured opponents, something odd happened. The gaffi and the vibro were all but identical in damage, with thevibroblade leading by under 1DPS. The vibro is older, and I can't remember the slice on it, but I would have expected it to be the weapon to go for against an armoured foe.

Still, I've found the calculator is a handy tool if you're looking at something with resists all over the place trying to decide what to start hitting it with.

Isn't the DX2 a little fat to try flushing down a toilet?

Yes indeed the DX2 is a little big for toilet flushing. Thanks to my curved sword, I cut it in half and flushed it down in two meaty chunks of useless plastic...

Seriously, I have one stupid question: in all my missions I always 'examine' my opponent. How do you determine if your foe is armoured? So in the event that a foe is armoured, I should use the Vibro? It is considerably weaker but I guess it does have the light AP thing going for it? (but it's still a kinetic weapon?).

Here's the thing. I went Dantooine as you guys suggested and went after pickets and those poisoning dragons. (thankfully with a fresh crate of poison heals). I did a little experiment. On some things, I noticed examination showed heavy resistence to kinetic, so I just used my stun baton, at other times I used my curved sword because it provided me the most damage as a kinetic weapon (224 max I think). Is my formula a little too simple? I ask becauseI really couldn't find a difference between the weapons... actually the VIbro seemed to be the poorest performer.

On to other matters of the best combat profession to compliment Master Doctor.... at the bottom of my post in the pistoleer forum I posted some thoughts on how bad fencing is with PvP. I guess I"m looking for something I'll never find. A well rounded combat profession to go with Master Doctor.

If you're a doctor or not and are curious, here's what I came up with from recent experiences: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=pistoleer&message.id=40681

Anyone have any additional thoughts/experiences to add?

Oh god trust me you will not regret it. Between my buffs, state heals and CoB, not to mention disease and posien cures. I'll never look back to any of the other professions out there.

I'm having an absolute blast with it!
