Thread: Why don't Fencers have a fencing weapon?

If not a foil or rapier, at least something that doesn't look like a billy-club or a junkyard remnant. I think the fencer class is well designed and is fun to play, but gets shafted on weapons.

I visualize a master fencer as the classy (ok, maybe snobish) guy who, seemingly effortlessly, slices his initials into your armor and then pierces your chest--all without messing up his do. To do this would require a pointy weapon, wouldn't it?

Seriously though, what weapon do you use as your main fighting weapon?

Thanks,

gaffi for damage, though it tends to be slower has the highest damage out of the three

stun for mostly pvp and sometimes certain monsters or npc's

ryke blade cuz it's pretty, it's fast but doesn't do alot of damage at all, use it mostly when i'm out helping others xp, since i'm capped is fun to play with it

kinda curious i heard something bout these imp detectors that will go in (probably next big patch) and if they detect sliced items on you they will confiscate the items. does anyone know anything about this?

No, they wont take them. They just turn you overt. Someone posted this on my guild site, but for the life of me I cant find where they got it, lol.

Reported by Thunderheart on the SOE official SWG community forums in testing:

Based on community input, we have made the following changes to the Imperial Crackdown penalty schema. Thanks go to San Tsu and the Smuggler community and Jester and the Galactic Civil War community.

All of these changes aren’t on Test Center yet, but here is what you can expect.

Some basics on how the Crackdown works:

Random searches will be conducted as part of the Emperor’s Crackdown on rebel activity.
Contraband is: Rebel Faction Equipment, Spice, Sliced weapons and armor.
Player items are not confiscated.
“Crackdowns” occur in the wilderness, “Shakedowns” occur in Planetary Cantinas (not player Cantinas)

If Imperial Search Parties find contraband on your character and you are...

Imperial, the penalty is:
Overt Imperial Officers: None. All junior officers will salute their superiors.
High Rank Covert: High Ranking officers will be acknowledged and saluted as directed by the Emperor.
Low Rank: (Identified as having little or no Faction Points spent on Rank): Low Ranking officers found in possession of contraband must pay tribute to the Emperor. Low ranking Imperial soldiers will be given the choice of sacrificing Faction Points or paying a fine.

Rebels, the penalty is:
Overt: Imperial Search party will open fire as per orders of the Emperor.
Covert: Covert Rebels will be identified to all surrounding Imperials (Turned Overt)

Neutral, the penalty is:
Imperial Citizens will be warned and lose faction points or be fined.

Smugglers have additional bonuses to escape Imperial Scans:

Novice Smugglers with “underworld” abilities will have a 15% chance to evade contraband searches plus an additional 15% for each skill box and Master Smugglers add another 20% for a total of 95%.

Players in both the wilderness and cantinas may avoid shakedown searches if grouped with smugglers for the same bonuses.

Thanks for getting involved and offering positive, well thought out feedback.

The developer offered me some additional detail:

And Neutral caught in the scans pay a fine and if they are unable to afford the fine lose imperial faction.
Contraband scanning will also take place in the 3 imperial controlled cities (Mos Espa, Kor Vella, and Kadaara).
In order to receive the smuggler bonus from being grouped with the player the smuggler must be within range (35m)

The title is really confusing. If you go by the brawler class, the weapons are broken down into unarmed, 1-handed, 2-handed and polearms. So, basing it off of that, the fencers are really 1-handed weapon specialists instead of what most people consider what an actual Fencer is.

That said, I use the gad. baton in PvE mostly since it is the most damaging weapon. The vibroblade is ok when you need to save on HAM costs for whatever reason.

As my main PvE weapon I use a Curved Sword, simply because it has the best DPS that I have found so far.

Sure a gaderiffi has better damage, but much slower speed and the end result is thata good curved sword has better DPS.

To determine the DPS is very easy: ( ( Min damage+ Max damage ) / 2 ) / Speed

I also have a stun baton and vibroblade ready, stun baton for PvP and Vibroblade ( wich is very fast )for both PvE and PvP if I want low HAM costs.

I use the gaderiffi(it kills me slower)(i use the curved sword if my powerup run out on my gaderiffi, until i can put a new one on), and sometimes i use a stun baton.

Also ghost you problem misses 2 things 1st that your skills speed up your weapon and that speed can only to 1 at the moment.

The closer i get to master fencer the more i use the vibroblade, sure it has a huge Min-Max gap however i was dueling someone yesterday and was hitting it for max 300dmg wich is crazy in PvP for a Knife. The Gaffi just wasn't doing it for me, the DMG vs HAM didn't equal out plus its AP0. Stun is good but on my server an awsome shift of Crystal came in so i'll be seeing some sick Stun resist armor soon. I can't get my knife to do enough dmg!!! =]

btw i'm 3403 fencer

We need more "Blade" type weapons...hence the title BladeMaster. We're not BatonMasters I'd like to see more star warsy type blades....like other professions have...why not a vibrosword? or energy sword? blast sword? whatever....these sticks we use are a little discouraging when you're wearing a Blademaster title.

Rizzaka with a gaff you should be able to hit for 500 damage in pvp unless its speed sliced. Ap dous not apply unless your foe has armor on resulting in its normal damage Ap is not good unless its medius against people in pvp. If you have trouble with ham cost buy some food like tat sunburn or breath of heaven.

At master fencer speed dous not matter weapons are all about damage.

actually if i have an AP1 weapon vs your flesh of AP0 i'll dish out an additional 25% more dmg. As such an AP2 vs AP0 is a 50% increase in dmg. So when i have a vibroblade that does a max of 185dmg with AP1 and a gaffi that does 221dmg and AP0 i'll take the blade. I should be dishing out more dmg with the blade than the gaffi stick, though i think it'd be by around 10 or so but sometimes that can make or break a fight.

Too bad a good gaffi is in the 280s with some at 295+ and a few over 300 (on my server). Unfortunatly fencers really do get the shaft for weapons, with only 2 useful ones.
Even at that, the stun baton isn't amazingly useful. I have one of the best I've ever seen and that is only 175 damage with no ap. Its only worth it for people with really good kinetic armor, and doesn't compare too well to say something like a Jawa Ion for stun damage. Frankly, our AP1 weapon is horrible. If you want good AP its probably best to do two-hand sword along with fencer. The new scythe looks incredible and had medium armor piercing.
