Fencer Archive

I love the fencer class, and i think one-hand swords are awesome. But recently i noticed something kinda strange: None of the swords we use are actual fencing swords. I am glad that there is diversity in blades and stuff but i would love to see a rapier. Does anyone else agree? There could be a rapier that you qualify for at like master one-hand or novice fencer that has AP1, really quick attack speed, low HAM cost, and lower damage. Then at master fencer you could qualify for a vibro-rapier (or something like that) that would have AP2 but similar stats to the first rapier. It would a) give us an AP2 weapon, and b) make us seem like actual fencers. I just think it would be wicked cool (yeah, i say wicked, guess what part of the country im from). Any thoughts, ideas, comments? The rapier type weapons would also be viable for dual-wielding. I don't know, i just usually don't pair a massive ryyk blade with fencing...

Sounds like they might add more sword types later... otherwise, fencer is kind of mis-leading right now.

Rapier would probably be AP 0 if they put one in.

I must admit, seeing a rapier like weapon would be nice, perhaps the one mentioned in a long prior post about a weapon in the EU that was "like" a rapier with a point blank blaster on the end. The tip hits its target, and the blatster goes off, delivering the hurt Even some more sword like weapons would be nice. Batons, vibro toothpicks, would at least have to rename the class Knifeboy, or Stabman (blaitant rip from the movie Mystery Men )

Just remember, fencing in terms of rapiers is one thing, but other cultures have thier own fencing as well. Kendo, Tae Kwon Do (or is it Quan, not sure), and such. If we get some nice long thin bladed weapons, would like to see other more unique one handed style weaps as well

Kendo and things like that aren't really fencing in the traditional sense. Swordplay? yes. fencing? not as most know it. Fencing is most commonly looked at as the stuff we see at the olympics. I just feel like there should be (as mentioned above) more long, thin, swords that really look like refined fencing style weapons.

I take the notion of fencing in the game's sence as fast, fluid one handed weapon mastery.Admittedly fromwhat I know of it,Kendo is more a 2 handed style, and not at all the same guidelines of western fencing. Just though it would be cool to mill over some other weapon types as well.You are 100% correct about term "Fencing" generally refering tothe western style (olympic style), but I was just throwing out ideas for other, non-epee/sabre/foil like things Personally, I was drawn to the fencer class by that very idea, I want nothing more than to wield a rapier style sword

Not at all an expert in any regard on Fencing or other cultural weapon styles, so dont get me wrong,not preaching here I am justan avid fan of all types of swordplay, in movies, actualsword-sports, and re-enactments Would love to hear any other styles you folks know of that would make for interesting weapons

Yeah! I was drawn to the fencing path because i wanted to fence. I can definetely see having diversity of sword types, but i want at least something that looks like a rapier. There isn't any right now, so it just seems strange. Hmmmm.... Where's our correspondent when we need him/her?

Technically, all one-on-one swordplay (including 2-handed, ie:kendo) is referred to as fencing, but really the european style is what the class is about...I'd love a rapier (far better than what we have now) but I feel given what moves we have and especially the animations for them thatedged swords would be far more viable. Really, look at things like lunge, which isn't really a lunge, it's a wierd slash spin slash thing, and, well, pretty much all of our moves hit with the edge of the blade.Thus,I propose (vibro?)sabers, the original fencing weapon of choice, as our new top level weapon. And yeah I'm all for customization and sheaths, we should be stylish if we're supposed to be the finesse melee class.

The best part of the rapier would be that any opponents you beat with it, would be too embarassed to admit it.

The coolest and most stylish thing ever would be if our swords were sheathed until we started combat. That would really make us look like the refined, finesse melee class. It most likely won't ever happen, but my god, it would be awesome...
