Not many may claimed they killed (ok, helped killing) rancors with survival knifes.

if you're in a level 80 group, you can hunt ANYTHING, leave the rancors alone. go to naboo and hunt kaadu if you want. (you can pull level 80 missions). 6000+ xp a piece, you can grind out master in no time flat. you only have to hit any critter once to get full xp.
what the hell are people complaining about? the CU has been fantastic for promoting groups. not only can you get a CRAPLOAD of xp very fast and independant of the dmg you deal, but you can also hunt what you want to harvest and make money/help out the crafters as well.
get in a group man.
I do, I love that group hunting is the promoted thing again, I love hunting in groups, like when i was new!

Rereading this thread now... you guys are aware that the damage you deal doesn't matter as long as you deal at least one damage, BUT a the XP is dependant on your level relative to the group level.
A level 5 character in a level 80 group wouldn't get as much XP for a level 80 creature as one of the levle 80 players would get if he killed it alone. I don't know exactly what the calculation base for that is, I first assumed it was just a character level / group level factor. It seems it must be more however.
It unlikely a level 5 player will get as much XP in a level 5 group however.
