Thread: Why Footwork First? A question from a fairly new fencer.

I asked when I got into the profession (as a true fencer, not a holo fencer), which branch I should pursue first. The answer was resounding : FootWork!

Yet, I am about 160k away from my final footwork Box, and really, have noticed little difference. Well, COB lasts a little longer now, but otherwise, there really seems to be not much of an advantage thus far with this Fencer branch, as compared to dealing out damage. Maybe a slight increase in speed too, but only slight, and seemingly only with regular attacks.

Am I missing something? Should I have headed up the Tachniques Tree to get the Body Hit 3 and Damage mitigation 2, and those dodges?

Please, if there is something I am missing in the footwork tree, or perhaps something that will not be apparent until I grab that final footwork box, clue me in:

What makes Footwork so great?

I went for the Footwork tree for the bleeds. Bleeds allow me to kill bigger things, quicker. It also helps alot with attaining Master Brawler, if your going to. You can stack bleeds on a diffuclt mob, then switch to another weapon. Bleeds do not count twords XP so all of the XP goes to your other weapon.

also footwork 4 allows you to use a dmg sliced gaffi without alot of speed problems, add to that the bleeds and you will be able to kill alot quicker

First off, you get bleed. Second off, that's the tree with SICK defense mods. Third, you get speed upgrades. If you just get footwork 1 and 2, you'll be a whole 1.0 down on speed!

After Footwork IV you'll swing alot faster. I did the Stances and Grips line first for dizzy2 so I could stand in a group of monsters and swing around hitting all of them for more experience points. Then I went to the Footwork tree, then the Techniques. Its really up to you how you want to do it.

It depends on your play style but footwork enables the speed of fencer. In my opinion it's the key to unlocking the rest of the profession. You can throw down those speed sliced weapons for a nice damage sliced gaffi, and I'd say you're on the right track.

May I ask which weapon you are using? That may be the reason you aren't seeing any reasults. If, for example, you are using a speed-sliced curved sword (in fact any speed-sliced weapon) as your primary weapon, then you won't be getting the full beneits from the speed boost. If your weapon is already very fast then just a little bit of extra speed will cap you out at 1.0 seconds (the fastest available speed).

At your current speed(and especially after this final Footwork box) you will get your best returns on your speed bonuses from a damage sliced Gaderiffi Baton.

If you are fighting an opponent with AR1 or higher that is not vulnerable to stun, then you will get the most mileage out of a damage-sliced Vibroblade. If your opponent has AR1 or higher and IS vulnerable to Stun, then a damage-sliced Stun baton will serve you well.

I am using 2 damage sliced vibroblades.

- Hmm, Stupid me did not have the bleeds loaded into my repitoire - I forgot about 1 hand health hit.

That would make a difference, lol.
