Thread: A few observations after some expended PVP last night...
Here's hoping you can drop some hints Raph...
Server lag is STILL rendering us at an additionaldisadvantage compared to ranged above and beyond the simple laws of physics and distance. I had heard that our effective range was increased somewhat but I had frequent messages that my target was out of range when using any attack but lunge (this seems to be working well). This despite my HUD recording that the person was within 4 or 5 meters. And also despite minimal (apparent) server lag. Because ranged' effective attack range is larger -- I am sure that this isn't the issue for them, that it is for us.
Because of this lag problem, I find that I sometimes hit the lunge button once too often, only to have my initial (laggy) posture change take effect, then be negated because I hit the lunge button again, thinking the first had missed the target. THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!!! And almost totally negates the effect of lunge when there is any appreciably lag.
Why should a second lunge negate the first? Why can't we simply get an error message like "your target resists the posture change"? I know this sounds trivial..but it *really* hampered my PvP the other night, because my opponents were (due to my miscalculations secondary to server lag) recovering from their KD so quickly. (Hehehe it actually took me awhile to even realize why this was happening).

It shouldn't. This is a known bug they are trying to track down. Unfortunaely the Devs are on vacation until Monday... so I have a pretty healthy list of "stuff" to dump on them when they return. I almost feel sorry for them.
As you know, the Devs elected to first try and resolve the server-lag-client issues by extending all melee weapons to (first) 8m, and then out to 10m. They said they would be willing to go as far as 12m to try and fix the problem, so that will likely be their next step.
Myself and a couple of other correspondents said we didn't feel this was an appropriate fix, and have a few suggestions on alternative ways to actually "fix" the issue, and perhaps after the 12m adjustment doesn't solve the issue they might finally break down and try our suggestions.
For now... unfortunately... all I can do is emphathize with you (it gets me killed,too), and cross my fingers that they will quickly see the light, and accept the fact that merely extending the range is not the best path.

I understand that the devs are trying to fix things using a progression of existing formats. Hopefully it WILL work... But I'm sure you and the other correspondents willbe able to provide some alternative solutions if it doesn't.
Funny how it took an evening of MINIMAL lag to really illustrate how bad this situation is. I'd noticed it before during massive PvP when the lag is unbearable... yet always chocked it up to "the way things are". Without the horrible lag though, I had nearly as many range errors.... it really was um... making me say....um... very bad words .... hehehehe

Lag is the reason I never or rarely do PVP, unless its a duel. Because of lag, I can't get my attacks out fast and I get killed before the server realizes I'm dead!
Although you may not want to hear from me, this issue is something im interested in, so i'll say a word or two.
Lunge is in fact operating the same way KD attacks from BH/TK used to. These specials got changed so that when you kd, and lag hits and you can't tell if you knocked someone down or not, then hit it again and it negated the initial attack, but yet put the 30 second timer on it.
Lunge simpley needs the same attention, because right now its buged how the KD used to be.
Ive noticed that the range on specials grew a month back, but now i notice that the range on specials shrank back to normal again.
My guess is that they ninja buffed melee to test it out, then after all the negative feedback from ranged class's ninja nerfed specials. Im no longer getting the exstended range from specials as i used to. This could be a ninja nerf, or all the servers are 50% more laggy then a few months back, which could be true too.
iv nosted that with lunge kali the fact that the hud shows 4m and it syas your out of range is due to the person moving. Sometimes ill lunge a person from 7m and they will slide to 17m. Also i agree that a second lunge should not negaite the first im sure a very long time ago it would just force the person into an ever lower posture.

i tell you whats really annoy when uve managed to get dizzy to stick on a nightsister elder then wow your first lunge works and she falls down, in comes a no it all tka oh i no ill knockdown her cause shes trying to stand up so it looks like she is standing up he does knockdown shes up 3 seconds later area attacck for 6000 damage![]()
