never been a fencer?

Well every tree is important, unless ur looking for the defenses.

Just the defences: 0040

Just the speed: 0400

Melee/Ranged defense: 4000

Accuracy: 0004

I would say none of them, because ull want all of them. Either drop something, or go up something like swords or pikes, where one branch will let you live

Hello

I've been working on my template for quite awhile now, but unfortunatley I can never pick a combat skill and tick with it. I have gone from rifles, to carbines, to pistols, back to carbines, gone back to rifles, and now I'm back to pistols again. Unfortunatley, the template I am working on (Master Droid Engineer, Master Creature Handler) will allow me to have only 1 tree in an elite combat profession

I was originally going to go up the Sniping tree in Rifleman, but I decided that Pistoleer would work better for what I wanted, so I decided to go up the Trickshot tree. Currently I am xx2x in Pistoleer, but I've always had a thing for blades, and now I'm thinking maybe putting my 1 tree into Fencer.

I took up brawler last night, so I still have a ways to go before I even get to Novice Fencer. But I was wondering what everyone's suggestions would be as to which 1 tree would benefit me the most. Currently, I'm thinking of x4xx, or xx4x. And my concerns are pretty much strictly PvE. I don't do a lot of PvP'ing, so that won't be a major factor.

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

Yes, I enjoy crafting droids.

I understand it's not a goldmine like weaponsmith or something... but it's a fun profession.

Please remove the highlighted words. SWG isn't about fun or enjoyment. It's about being ubar, pwnz0ring teh nub and grinding to Jedi. Powergame or die! Rawr!

I started my character as an Artisan. I wanted to be a Droid Engineer. I hated the Artisan grind[1] but I still wanted to craft so I decided to take up Bio-Engineer. Since that entailed running around aggressive monsters and explicitly NOT attacking them, I needed a combat profession with good defences that I wouldn't have to buff up to play. And preferably one with swords[2]. That was last January.

While levelling BE I also went up Doctor. Got to 4402 and loved it. In those days you could show up at Fort Tusken and get XP healing people; maybe even charge 5k for a rez when they died. I enjoyed being the healer but keeping Doc would have meant dropping BE or Fencer and neither option was acceptable.

After ten months or so of BE I wanted a change. I really didn't want to drop BE but keeping it would have meant dropping Fencer and I couldn't bring myself to do that. BE went and Pikeman came in. I mastered it then went out to grind Force Sensitive accuracy and speed rather than pay millions for speed tapes. Had a great time taking on mobs that I just couldn't kill as a Fencer (not that they could kill me either). Got a Nightsister energy lance and took on Elders.

Three months later I wanted an Aurilian plant. You need to be Master Medic for that. I put it off and put it off until I could put it off no longer. I had to drop Pikeman or Fencer and the latter choice was never in the running.

Fencer isn't for everyone. It takes time to kill enemies that other professions can put down quickly and our primary advantage (we're hard to hit) is negated against higher end opponents and irrelevant in the midrange where everyone else can strap on 90% composite and take the beating. If you do like it, however, you're probably like me: messing with your template and dropping other skills you really enjoy because you just can't face turning in your sword.

Fence on!

[1] Makes me laugh to think back to how horrible I thought the Artisan grind was. Since then I mastered BE, deliberately went up Pikeman suboptimally to save skillpoints for when I could free them up and grinded out four branches of FS combat (5m FS XP). The Artisan grind is NOT hard...
[2] Any game with swords, I'm there. I even played Pirates of the Caribbean. And that's difficult to class as a Game.

It was my first grind, and guaranteed to be the only non-changing part of my template.

I didn't start it because I thought the defs were great, I started it because I liked the idea of it. In every rpg I've played (computer or paper) I've been a onehanded weapon wielder. However, after doing the grind, I grew very accustomed to the defenses. Now, unless I'm PvPing or hunting Rancors or other high end creatures, I don't ever buff, nor wear armor. I have my specials and foods/drinks hotkeyed, CoB macro'd, and am proud to walk around unbuffed, unarmored, and with my Master Fencer tag above my head.
