Thread: Is fencer a workable option with no ranged skills?

Hi folks

I play on Chimaera - Euro and am currently a hybrid Fencer/Pistoleer. I want to master politician and have recently taken on entertaining. To master fencer and politician - I need to drop pistoleer or entertainer. Can I survive in pve or pvp without ranged capability?

I seem to do ok for myself hunting - but I am concerned about long term viability of fencer as my only option of dealing damage - particularly if there are skilled ranged fellas about who can kite me.

I would welcome advice from current fencers who pvp and pve alot

Cheers

the only reason i went pistoleer withFencer was cuz i had done nothing but melee up until then... (the dodge was just an added bonus... really ) anyway, just fencer (and maybe some tka defences, yes... you can master fencer and most of tka and still master politician i believe) can do some nice damage in pvp, and still not get totally pwned. As long as you are not trying to solo raid like 10 people... might be a lil disappointed

you can be very effective with no ranged skills. Burst run is what you need to do and if someone burst runs away from you just do the same they will soon turn around and chase you then you hit burst run and you go after them before they can change direction they just landed on the cloning room floor

You just have to be aware of your surroundings and use strategy. There will be situations that you won't want to get involved in, at least not on the other person's terms.

I think the reverse is even worse... a ranged person getting caught in melee. It can be much harder to get out of such a situation as well.

If you are a TKA that has to chase people down a lot... get a non-ch BE pet that has posture change or rangedattacks. Send your peton ahead to slow up or stop your quarry and you won't even be out of breath when you get there. If the person stops to engage, you're back in business; if they don't, they are taking damage all the while. This takes no additional skill points to utilize.

I think most combat class's have an eliment of excitment in it for people. You do give up some advantages being simply melee, but its not anything that will kill you, well not with proper execution.

Part of the fun of being melee is the challenge of being melee, bottom line, if its fun do it, if its not fun for you, then don't.

pretty simple logic.

Pure melees should learn to use the 6sec server lag to your advantage when getting kited. NEVER get kited, if someone begins to kite you, run the other way and then burst run back at them after they give the chase. Dueling in big, wide, open areas like theed's square is bad because you have no cover. Use corners to your advantage. IE clothe-line the sucker commando around a corner by waiting for him to come near the corner then dash out and do your thing. The 6sec server lag is your best friend.

Hi Folks

Firstly, thanks for the tips on pvp and the advice. I am not obsessed with the need to kill everyone I meet in pvp - I was concerned that losing ranged as an option in pvp would limit me to certain sorts of engagements. I am on the whole, delighted with melee in swg - it reminds me of dark age of camelot which, in many ways makes me feel much more comfortable with the game and heightens my enjoyment.

I am, however, a lowbie fencer and at 0/0/1/1 fencer I was wondering what the best trees to level are? If you were levelling your master fencer now - which trees would you find the most useful to level first?

Thanks in advance for any advice

I remember killing a mounted rifleman in the area in front of the Theed shuttleport after closing an 80-meter gap with burst run. I killed seventeen people and three pets that day... good fun.

I did footwork first for the bleeds, then Tech, for the mitigation, then Stances. But definately footwork first for bleeds.
