Thread: Raph: State effects landing through avoided blows/shots

Hey Raph:

I have a fencer for my main and a jedi. Recently I responded to a post in the jedi forum from Tanks, the BH correspondent. He was discussing the power of higher level jedi to saber block incoming fire and thus make the dizzy/kd combo (from ranged opponents only) less fearsome. I pointed out that state effects will land on a target provided the blow/shot isn't a complete miss. Meaning, if you dodge/block/counterattack an attack that includes a state effect, the state effect will land on you even though the attack is avoided and does no damage.

I'd like to get your input and observations on this if possible. When I pointed it out, Tanks replied (basically) that it wasn't true and if it were the "uber defense" templates wouldn't have a chance. He said that he gets his fire KD dodged all the time and the person isn't on their back. I replied that that was because the "uber defense" templates also have high numbers in straight Defense vs. Dizzy or Defense vs. Knockdown.

It kind of worries me that this might never have been brought up by the correspondents and since you're the resident field tester extraordinaire as well as the correspondent for my main profession, thought I'd bring it up here for your comments.

Thanks.

PS. I don't want to belabor this post with specifics in case you are aware of the issue. If you're not, I can get more specific if necessary.

I have noticed this as well.
I can go an entire battle without taking dmg and still recieve DOTs from evaded attacks.

we know it works with DOTs, but as for status effects, i haven't noticed one way or the other. i can test this out tonight with my guildmate, if Raphayl doesn't have the time.

Just make sure if you're testing it that you take note of the dodger/blocker's Defense Vs. Dizzy or KD or whatever state you're trying to apply through the dodge/block. Obviously if you havea 100 KD defense, then you will rarely get knocked down even though the kd effect check is made when you dodge, because the 100 KD defense will kick in.

It's hard to find someone with high evasion skill (dodge/block/whatever) but low Defense vs. KD/Dizzy.

what i'll do is have him shoot me with his dizzy shot. we'll go until i get hit 500 times, or until i dodge it, but get dizzy once. 500 should be a large enough data set.

i'll use CoB, so if it's gonna happen, it shouldn't take long. he's gonna have a blast with this. i always make fun of every ranged fighter i meet, including him. wheeee.

Do you know for certain that CoB doesn't increase the Defense Vs. (State) mods as well?

100% certain it doesn't increase them. Thank's for doing that testing, Altair. Keep in mind some of the issued we discovered while performing like tests. Don't have your attacker spam, or when you get slapped with the status effectyou won't be 100% certain it happened during a Dodged attack. Give a second or so between attacks so each one, and any status effects are distinct. I know you'll do a great job.

One of the jedi guardians posted up a log here: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=jedi&message.id=212953

The blinds obviously are not going through blocked shots. I don't know how to account for evaded/dodged/blocked force KDs resulting in a knockdown now.
