Heya all, I've been thinking of something new to do with my commando. I probablywon't do anything at all. I'm pretty happy with my medic/commando but that christmas holo I got told me to master fencer so it got me thinking about other templates, melee specifically. What'sfencer like? How does it play, how do you like it, what's it's huge issues, etc? The big question though, is it fun?

I appreciate any response I get so long as it's not some ass being well... an ass.

think of this profession as a semi jedi way because jedi light sabers are like a suped up version of swords etc so i guess its fun because my holo told meh the same thing especially when i was going for commando so now im turning around from that and heading to master fencer heh so i think its cool and it goes by like that i mean i earned 40k exp in this in like an hour so it wont take very long to master this probably 2 weeks by the most if you are at least a semi hard core gamer hope this helps c ya

It is mainly a defensive class, rather than an offensive class like BH.

Yeah, I'ld say it's defensive... I was looking at the defensive mods you guys get and holy **edit**! that's alot of mods... Thanks for the replies. I still have a ways to go before I start messing with my template but you may see me running around with a master fencer tag sometime in the future. Who knows?

Let me add my two cents to this ... I had done commando on my own and my holo told me to go fencer.. just like you. Before the fencer holo, I had a ranger holo and wanted to try out tka. So while working ranger I was working tka. I finished both and now had to do fencer.

Let me tell you, I love it... Just last night I was in the tusken fort on tat and I was just strolling around the fort. If I did no specials I could not be killed ! Keep in mind I DIDhave doc buffs! I did not use power boost from tka (untill I did some serious fighting) nor was I using moun gold or food or any other drugs. Nor was I wearing any armor ! Just the doc buffs. It was crazy ... when I started to fight them using fencer I was creaming them left and right ... ALL of them.. lords, brutes, berserkers, avengers, chieftens ... everything. I would watch my mind that could get a bit low, but when it did I just stopped using special attacks and made sure I had the center of being clicked. I have my mind states set at 1000 mind, power 400 willpower 800 and it regenerates quite nicely with no armor .. I was looking for tusken armor and I got a set of gloves being there after aboutan hour .. I was surprised to get a force crystal also. ( no idea what dropped it though!) That place was crazy too...

I am not sure how much of a diff the TKA has made for hand to hand combat but I am sure some with it's melee benefits. But, to get my experience for master fencer I was killing tons of pikets and huurtons on dantooine. They gave anywhere from 3-4k exp each. If I had know it was this good at the fort I would have been here a long time ago with my doc buffs !!

Okay. As far as I can tell. I have been Master Fencer for about a week now. And have done some MAJOR PvP. Maybe like 80 duels or so. Out of those 80, i have probably only lost 15. Dude Fencer is an amazing profession, that if you get a holocron for, you should be like OMG! YES! (unlike my pikeman =( ) So Fencer is fun to level up. I did about 8 boxes in 2 days, when i was powergaming at fort tusken. Go there with buffs and all. Issues for Fencer...wow. There is almost no issue at all. It is the freaking best profession in the game! But that's just my opinion.

I come from an artisan background, having only picked up rifleman to keep my butt from getting incap'd on Talus when I first started out in SWG. So when I got my holo for Fencer, I was sorely disappointed because I had no, and I mean absolutely *NO* melee experience on me, with the exception of those few points garnered while switching weapons.

But, I am now a 0/2/0/1 Novice Fencer, and let me tell you that I am LOVING IT! All I can say is that my character is cool. I had to lose a lot of points because I was already working my way up to Tailor when I got my holo, but when it comes to fighting, I know I'm an asset to any team now. Whereas before, I was just the tag-along.

Once you get comfortable with your HAM and how you interact with your specials, you can work right along side someone elses strategy and use the correct attack to help take down the target quicker. So, I know you're doing this because of your holo (just like me), but make sure you take the time to understand how each one of your special attacks work with your HAM, how they vary dependant on the weapon you are using, and definitely, how far you can go before you need to use a stim. It will make the time spent getting your XP so much more fun...

And congratulations, 'cause this is a great profession! (And one you may not want to give up so quickly once you come across your next holo...I know I won't be so quick to change...)

Choose fencer on the drive home reading the manual the day I bought the game. Haven't looked back since. I wouldn't trade it for the Jedi slot.
