Thread: Mitigation doesnt work in pvp...?

Just checking screenies tonight and noticed a combat chat log before the the mitigation patch of me being hit for 490 from a TKM. Post patch Ive been hit for 496 max so far from a TKM, what gives..? I know it deffinetly works in PVE, unequip your weapon and you will take double dmg, equip it and its reduced by atleast 50%, however this doesnt ring true in pvp...


One more thing that realy gets me is the massive ham cost of fencing weapons, being 2/0/0/4 TKA I know that atleast for tka they are almost as close in ham as us ( maybe even, but without any speed bonus I dont notice ). Just seems a bit odd considering we do 1/3 less dmg than any other melee with a gaderiffi and 1/2 using a stun baton that is useless if not buffed..


Ya ya, Its all old news, but I havnt been to these boards in awhile, so Im a little behind on issues.


One more thing Id like to point out. Is it me, or does it seem Fencer defenses dont work worth a crap if we arent using COB.? I have Pistol 4 and I dodge more often with newb pistol skills than I do using a fencer weapon.

teras kasi just do massive amounts of damage at a very low speed, it is very hard to test if it does work in pvp as to test with someone without melee mitigation is to test with someone without toughness.

TKA damage really isnt affected by mitigation. Unlike 90% of the weapons out there. And Im not sure you understand exactly what mitigation does. From your initial post it sounds like you think its another type of toughness.


Here is what mitigation does. Lets look at a power hammer for our example. 184-618 damage. There is a 434 point damage range which is the difference between the min and max damage. With mitigation 3 you have 60% reduction of that range which means that when that hammer is swung at you its actual damage stats are approximately 184-348 so the damage it does to you is signifigantly reduced. However with a TKA if using VK's they are ( trying to remember none in front of me ) 36-144 unsliced. These have a 108 point range which means at miti 3 you are taking aproximately 36-80 damage + the 250 damage bonus tka get so their reduction is negligible.

I've found that at the higher levels of fencer you need to adjust your HAMs. The great defenses that are part of this profession make you really hard to hit so typically I damage myself more than my enemy does due to the high HAM costs of the gaffi and batton. I adjusted my Strength, Quickness and Focus to thier max (I'm a rodian) and lowered my Health, Action and Mind to 800 each. I find this helps a ton. Give it a try if you find the HAM costs on fencer weapons chewing you up.
