Fencer Archive
Thread: FENCER ISSUES (Lack of Weapontry) I have a solution, in addition to Dual Wield.
I like the idea, but a few of the ideas are flawed:
1. SOE would never put in someone like a samurai, because it wouldn't fit with the time period the game is trying to achieve
2. Being able to sample something from a creature as a fencer would take a lot of coding, it would be better to make it a loot drop from set creatures (that spawn from the missions)or something.
3. Making a DOT happen to any non-master that equips the weapon would make a lot of people angry, and I'm sure this forum would be overrun by people crying about it. It's simple, and a good idea really, but, people are people.
I like the idea of a master level weapon though, hopefully this can get taken a little further.

1) Well, not a samurai per se, but a wizened character like that. I was not saying to break immersion. I want a samurai-like character, not an actual samurai.
2) Be it a sample or loot drop, either is fine by me. Even if its one more thing we need to go to a BE to get, that's fine too. Gives them more stuff to do.
3) People are indeed people, but they need to learn to shut up. It's simple, you don't want to get hurt, don't equip it. They can't use it anyway, so whenever someone tries to sell them the sword, they won't want it because of the damage it could do. So there would be some initial crying... no big deal. They will learn, and the blades will not be able to have certain people who aren't fencers monopolize them for their own selfish profit. Plus, it gives the fencer's ultimate blade a sort of reverence eventually.
You could improve damage on lower weapons by great amounts. Image a curved sword with the damage of a gaffi. You could get a DOT. You could get AP1. The point of each of these is to make each weapon in the profession attractive to a master of that profession. This should lead to diversity, where I choose the plain sword with the AP powerup, but you choose the vibroblade with the flame dot.
This all falls apart with extraordinary weapons. If the system can't identify them, then these weapons would be easily too powerful.
A master's weapon would be nice, too, but I don't see how to do those without causing farming problems or auctioning.
