Thread: FENCER ISSUES (Lack of Weapontry) I have a solution, in addition to Dual Wield.

First off, I do not want this to turn into a "dual wield" thread. I am sure most of us feel positively about dual wield, and this is not something that I am suggesting take the place of it. Rather, this is something I see as a bonus to the fencer class, and would help out the fencer experience.

This is my helpful solution to fencer. I feel this would do4 things:

1) Decrease the amount of dabblers in our profession and encourage some of them to commit themselves.

2) Give Fencers a whole new weapon that could be what Master Fencers have been yearning for.

3) Help increase immersion and the fun factor of being a fencer.

4) Provide a goal for fencers to shoot for.

So, what is my idea?

A Master's Quest for the Ultimate Fencer Weapon

The idea breaks down like this:

The Story:

Once a fencer reaches masterhood, they would be able to take on a quest, in which they find an old fencing master (think japanese samurai/master), whowill give them quests in which as they complete it, the old master gives them rewards, and tells them that by completing his tasks, the master will give his worthy pupil the secret to "the ultimate blade". You complete the quests, and the final one is to defeat the old master's star pupil in combat with your fencing weapon.

The Reward:

The reward at the end is a fencing schematic from the old master. You take this schematic to an Armor Smith, and the smith can craft you "The Masters Blade". The main thing about the masters blade is that it will not take enhancements, but it can do up to 2 DOT attacks, depending on the ingredients you find. Fencers will have the ability to kill creatures, and *sample* something from them to go into the blade, i.e. a DOT attack. The stronger the creature, the stronger the DOT attack on the blade. Because of its power, the Blade will only be AP Light, but the damage would be in the 300's from minimum to maximum, and the speed would be in the 2's.

The Catch:

We can't have the ultimate blade without some balancing issues. Thus, here they are. The blade can only be made one at a time... if you have one in your inventory, even in your bank, then you will not be allowed to trade for another - you must destroy the old one to get a new one. Thus, no Dual Wield Master Blades. If a non-fencing master tries to equip the sword, not only will they be told they are not certified, but they will also not be able to equip it, AND they will be hit with a bleed, and any other DOT attacks the blade might have. Thus this means there will be some reverence for being able to handle a sword like that. If you want another schematic to give to another WS, you can always go back to the Master, but you must defeat his pupil each time. He will not give you another schematic if you have one anywhere in your inventory (including the bank).

So, that is my idea... a Master level weapon, that can only be used by Master Fencers, and can also hurt anyone who isn't a master that tries to use it, AND it necessitates a quest by a master fencer to be able to receive a schematic of this blade.

Obviously this is new content, and would take some time to work out, but who would love to see this? What is everyone's thoughts?

And I especially would like to know what Fury Chaser thinks, since he is our rep right now.

Thoughts?

I like the idea, but a few of the ideas are flawed:

1. SOE would never put in someone like a samurai, because it wouldn't fit with the time period the game is trying to achieve
2. Being able to sample something from a creature as a fencer would take a lot of coding, it would be better to make it a loot drop from set creatures (that spawn from the missions)or something.
3. Making a DOT happen to any non-master that equips the weapon would make a lot of people angry, and I'm sure this forum would be overrun by people crying about it. It's simple, and a good idea really, but, people are people.

I like the idea of a master level weapon though, hopefully this can get taken a little further.

1) Well, not a samurai per se, but a wizened character like that. I was not saying to break immersion. I want a samurai-like character, not an actual samurai.

2) Be it a sample or loot drop, either is fine by me. Even if its one more thing we need to go to a BE to get, that's fine too. Gives them more stuff to do.

3) People are indeed people, but they need to learn to shut up. It's simple, you don't want to get hurt, don't equip it. They can't use it anyway, so whenever someone tries to sell them the sword, they won't want it because of the damage it could do. So there would be some initial crying... no big deal. They will learn, and the blades will not be able to have certain people who aren't fencers monopolize them for their own selfish profit. Plus, it gives the fencer's ultimate blade a sort of reverence eventually.

Quests for each master would be nice. Personally, I think each combat profession should have multiple, repeatable quests. As a rewqard, you get a Permanent Powerup for your weapon. You are also given an option to decide which type of weapon you want the powerup to go on. Maybe limit these to 1 quest/month to prevent farming. These powerups would be No Trade, and the resulting weapons be notrade. (I don't want to abuse the crafters, but if these quests can be farmed, they will be. The crafters still provide the base weapon.)

You could improve damage on lower weapons by great amounts. Image a curved sword with the damage of a gaffi. You could get a DOT. You could get AP1. The point of each of these is to make each weapon in the profession attractive to a master of that profession. This should lead to diversity, where I choose the plain sword with the AP powerup, but you choose the vibroblade with the flame dot.

This all falls apart with extraordinary weapons. If the system can't identify them, then these weapons would be easily too powerful.

A master's weapon would be nice, too, but I don't see how to do those without causing farming problems or auctioning.

What do you folks mean, No samurai....look at the RIS armor...looks like a samurai set of armor to me. But really, I agree, fencers need a master level weapon. Pikeman have the NS lance, Pistoleers have the DE10, Swordsman have gotten 2 new weapons since release, rifleman got the beserker, and on and on....but make it something more "fencer-ish", how about a set of blades, a main and off hand weapon, each with a dot.
Something similar to days of old, like a rapier and main-gauche type of weapon.
